So you can have fun without flying somewhere...
A Thanksgiving TR home in NYC.
Erev Thanksgiving:
Early office closing at 3:30 yesterday meant my wife could meet me in the UWS to check out Macy's Inflation Celebration!
It was cool to see all the floats - most of them were blown up by 4:30, so that was good as I had been warned that by going so early (it ends at 10PM), the floats may not be blown up yet. The rain was a bit annoying but between both of us having umbrellas and the fact that it wasn't a downpour, it really wasn't too bad. There really weren't too many people there which was probably due to the early hour we were there and the rain. We got a bit wet and cold, but we dried up at dinner...
ABC!!!It was about a 15 minute walk to ABC and despite warnings, there was no wait. They had a table for 2 ready and we sat down immediately. I would bet that was because we got there early - around 5:20. During most of our meal, there was a nice line waiting for a seat. They really should get a bigger place.
Soft Product: Service was excellent! Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and the food was brought out
so fast! The seater gladly took a picture of us, and we really, really liked the atmosphere. We were a little unimpressed with the prices at first, but then realized this place is clearly not a fancy place like Le Marais, but is also going to be much better than a Kosher Delight, so the pricing was sensibly right in the middle. I also liked how the menu is on a paper placemat so it doesn't get in the way and you don't care if it gets dirty/ruined. Great idea!
Hard Product: We started off with Dan's recommendation of the Buffalo Nuggets with ranch dressing.
You get 6 pieces, which would probably be great for 1 person, but it was definitely enough to do it's job - whet the appetite - for 2 people. The flavor of these nuggets was, as my wife said, "incredible". She sends her thanks for this suggestion as well as the others.
The main course came out in impressive timing and the sandwiches looked so good! My wife was definitely interested in the Guacamole Burger but then decided that for the same price, she could get the Classic Burger and add "bacon" to it, so she went with that.
I went with Dan's recommendation of the BBQ Pulled Beef.
Both sandwiches were great! The flavor of the pulled beef was awesome! My wife really liked her sandwich as well! The buns were really tasty and we poured that awesome ranch dressing on everything, including the fantastic fries we got.
We were full and didn't need dessert although the options sounded fantastic. After tax and tip, we spent $66 - like I said, more than you would at KD, but not as much as you would at LM.
We went home and finished the night with some popcorn and Batman: The Dark Knight, which I rented for free from Amazon thanks to the video credits! Great first night of Thanksgiving weekend!
