I'll put down money that it is impossible to reconcile. Sorta like they still haven't found out how to charge a tourist taxes on purchasing a vehicle.
That's a little different

Ive had an agent cancel a student visa of mine while leaving the country. Cant see why it should be different upon entering. Explain to him that you are no longer a student
what kind of agent? The passport control told me to go to Misrad Hapnim

I don't get it; to renew a Student Visa- a Visa I already had for 7 years and NEVER had to present my birth certificate in order to renew my Visa I know have to present my birth certificate?
How does that make any sense?

The ministry doesnt make sense. Very selective enforcing of the rules. A couple years ago they started requiring a birth certificate and later only the original birth certificate.

Friends have been told you need everything from copies of your parents birth certificates to you parents originals to both parents actual passports. (They want your parents to fly in?)
(I recall it being easier if parents names and birthdays are on your birth certificate)

Bottom line the agent behind the desk can do pretty much whatever they want I had my original birth certificate, passport, copies of parents passports, letters from yeshiva ready when she tried to trip me up and complimented her kids drawings hanging next to desk. My friend got in line a few times before he got someone nice.

So if I am in Israel how exactly I am susposed to get to get my original birth certificate?
Maybe I cannot a copy and get an Israeli to notarize it or something?

I knew someone trustworthy who brought it. (Would not reccomend though.) Why do you need the visa?
Never heard of anyone getting arrested off the streets...

I would try going with a notarized copy and e/t elese neatly prepped in a folder, act confident and hope for the best. If they deny you have a valid excuse next time you leave the country where you'll tell border control "Look I tried to get a visa but they were unreasonable, I will bring my papers next time"

You need a student visa for Bituach Leumi. If it expires they throw you off.
Possibly may need it for banking, buying a house...

Just a few DP here about the office in Yerushalyim.

Very hard and frustrating for non Israelis to get in recently.

For Visas it seems like you need an appointment to get in. You either go online to the Misrad Hapnim and wait till they give you an appointment or email them over and over and over until the respond to you.

If you are able to make another excuse to get in the building they may let you in....

If you already have a ticket number ( the one you get when your waiting for your turn) they will let you in also.

Anyone has any questions I'll be happy to try to answer.

Were you trying to get an ishur to enter Israel? Did you make an appointment in advance?

Is there a way to get a copy of a tehudat nissuhim in English?

DW needs a copy to legally change her name with her bank in the US, so i was hoping now have to go through licensed translators etc

Thanks!

I don't know if they do that, but can't she just use it (Israeli Marriage license) to change the name on her passport and then use that to change the mane on the bank accounts?

Oddly enough she had no issues changing her name on her US passport. But the US bank wants a copy of the marriage certificate to change the name on the account  ::)

The Embassy is used to dealing with Israeli documents so they have no issue with the Israeli Marriage certificate.
Has she changed her name on her SS card? It may be easier with the bank once she does.
Is her passport number on the Marriage certificate?
I would try sending the Israeli document, with the number circled together with copies of the old and new passports.

Is her passport number on the Marriage certificate?
It would have been too easy  :)

I sent the passport, the marriage certificate in Hebrew and a certified translation of the certificate..

Will wait and see.

Has she changed her name on her SS card?
I don't think she owns a SS card but can confidently say she never changed the name with SS since I'm the one dealing with the bureaucracy. How does one change the name there?

Her name was changed on her passport, so wouldn't that automatically update SS?

Thx

I'm pretty sure you need to change the SS separately.
based on what it says here https://il.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/social-security/#:~:text=In%20order%20to%20obtain%20a,form%2C%20SS%2D5%20FS. and here https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5doc.htm I would send them a copy of the old and new passports, together with the marriage license.

It's exponentially quicker to have a SS card sent to an address in the US vs Israel (6 weeks vs 6 months+)

Let us know how it goes. (I'm just waiting for DW passport to expire before doing all the name changing)
