When I went a few months ago I only brought parents and baby's passports with me and being that the baby was born in Israel she was able to pull up the info herself. Not recommending you do it, just saying you can get away with it.

They gave me a card with their phone number and the website. I hung up the phone after no one picking up for over a half an hour. Website allows you to fill out a form and they'll get back to you.  >:(

I'm hoping then that they changed the phone and online system, they almost never call you back from the form and you never get through when calling.
And now there won't be a way to push to get an earlier date

Was really annoying, two people just sitting there doing nothing with the appointment book sitting there on the desk. One of them tells me sorry you need to call or do it online, I look at the book and back at him and he just smirked back at me.

So apparently being that we're a family of five we can no longer make appointments to get visas, we have to submit all the paperwork and they call when the visa is ready.
And a classic story. A friend brought in both his paperwork and mine, same exact letter from yeshiva. He gets a call that his visa is ready, I get a call that the letter is not acceptable due to some problem with the language and signature.  ::)

It's regular rishum nefesh, iirc.  although afaik students dont get btl, they get meuchedet (or regular non-government insurance)

If I am currently here on a student visa, and want to be able to work, do I need to get a new visa? Or do they just add permitted to work onto the student one?

Both.  They need to print out a new one that says permitted to work.  But good luck getting that :)

Is it really hard? I have a friend who went yesterday and they asked him if he wants a working visa, and they gave him one on the spot without asking anything else

Lucky him!
Officially it is a long process, not necessarily hard.  You need additional papers (a rabbi from where you're from saying you are jewish, iirc), and it takes them a while to process it, then you need to go back and they put it in your passport.

Is there a list where I can find out which additional papers I need? Also, do my wifes and childrens passports also get changed?

I meant for them to pay whatever they pay for Meuchedet.
