Go to a hotel with a kitchenette, such as residence inn.

If there is room for cooking, the smoke detector shouldn't be too sensitive to be triggered by tea lights.

Done Shabbos candles many times in this chain without my having any reservations . . . (about the lighting of tea lights  :) ).
Thanks!
This is the perfect solution, and prevents issues that are int he post after yours

Should probably ask your LOR as it goes against the terms of the hotel to light a fire in your room. By doing that you don't have a right to be in your room so technically you can't light chanukah candles there.  So you might actually be worse off by making a bracha lvatala
Did you hear this from a Rabbi?
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

yes. but as always ask your rabbi

Our Rabbi said that it is totally Kosher to light in a hotel room or in the lobby.

(We once had manager’s permission to light three menorahs in the front window of the hotel lobby.
It was in Harrisburg or Allentown, I think.)

1) Disobeying hotel terms don't take away your right of being present in the room. Even if they catch it, they'll ask you to blow out the candles, not leave the room

2) Being present in a room illegitimately would probably still be considered ones residence and be eligible for Menorah lighting

Probably the same Din as a squatter, or someone that hasn’t paid rent

I don't think lighting a candle in a hotel room makes you a squatter, but I do think a squatter is mechuyev in ner chanukka. Certainly so when there are legal rights.

Legal rights?
I’m sure the hotel rules about fires have something to do with insurance.

Is that like the same idea as using a mikva but not paying?

Have lit Shabbos candles many a time in hotels without issues. As well as many Chanukah lightings without issues.
