I've only traveled internationally with GE. Someone told me that at JFK they also have non-GE machines?

What do you mean? Kiosks for this without GE? I don't recall seeing that.

Several non-GE friends have used them and describe the experience to be the same as my GE experience, sans fingerprinting.

True, Just used JFK for arrival machines. I still don't have GE.
But GE has seperate area and the line to the agent is empty for them

It's possible for a baby to get, it will need GE.
