Israel elections
« on: October 25, 2012, 03:37:46 PM »
So now the entertainment starts, the Knesset circus running for reelection.

Wow, what a bombshell, Likud and Yisrael Beiteinu merge.
Bibi is a political genius, he's the Einstein of politics and diplomacy.
Waiting to see how many votes they can garner together..  Only concern is there shouldn't ever be a rotation for PM, a PM Lieberman sounds too scary.

Why do I always find the Israel elections to always be more exciting and interesting than US elections, notwithstanding the fact that Knesset gets reelected just about every Monday and Thursday (excuse the Yiddish expression)?!

running as a bloc draws votes as you essentially are voting for the next prime minister - based on current polls predicting they will garner 56 seats...

lieberman still has some legal trouble and if he needs to resign, bibi will be bolstered.

this move is bad for religious parties and who knows what shas will do now...they have their own issues to work through and deri has said they will sit in the opposition but in israel things are always in flux...

Israel doesn't have electoral voting.
Israel has a much higher voter turnout.
Who gets elected matters more in Israel (IMHO)
And other reasons.

When my class went to DC for our 8th grade trip we went to the capital. When we got in there was a congressman speaking about the problem of getting the youth involved in politics and just as we came in he was saying "there is no reason why in the US only 20% of young people between ages 18 and 30 voted in the last election while in Israel it was over 80% of the same age group who voted". For a group of OTnicks that was probably the most exhilarating thing we saw on our trip :))

More like in Israel it actually matters who wins while in the US it's just 2 versions of the same garbage

OTnicks? And none asked about the other 90% in the US ;)

Versus in Israel when the right wins they give land away and when the left wins the right won't let them give land away :P

.......
If your point is that there everyone's vote counts (is worth) more, one can argue that it's not necessarily worth so much more, because a lot of the people (e.g. "Chareidim", l'havdil Muslim Arabs etc) only vote for the small parties and (notwithstanding the fact that many of the small parties don't even reach the required threshold of votes/seats to enter the Knesset = thousands of wasted votes) many of these small parties are meaningless a whole year, e.g. Arab parties, Ichud L'umi, etc.

For anyone who is well-versed in Israeli politics, this video is hilarious!
It's a promotional video for Zev Elkin (MK from Likud) Gangnam style,  featuring Ahmed Tibi, Zoabi, l'havdil Olmert, Yariv Oppenheimer, Livni, and others.
cute possible  kol isha

What a crazy day it was on the Israeli political scene;
- Ehud Barak resigning from politics (after 40 years!!)
- Likud election results place the party much more right wing
- Moshe Feiglin won big time!  (poor Bibi, he doesn't know what to do with himself )
- Amnon Yitzchak claims to be starting a party and running for Knesset (the array... in the circus only gets larger)
- American R' Dov Lipman of Beit Shemesh city council announced he's joining Lapid's Yesh Atid.  Strange..

Wow, so much to say..

Side note: I saw one poll gave R' Amsalem 10 seats in the next Knesset, wow!!!
