extend layover
« on: October 27, 2012, 06:42:35 PM »
Looking to capitalize on the alitalia deal, is there anyway to book a ticket on their website and/or over the phone that includes an extended layover in rome, i.e. 1 week?

would it make a difference if a travel agent booked it? if so, anyone reccommend one? thanks.

a TA would not get you the discount. Maybe try calling alitalia reservations.

And as a last resort you could always ask at the airport during your normal layover, sometimes they'll let you extend for free or a small fee (not always).

There is a multi-city option on the website...

+1
And if the multi-city will cost more, then select multi city for the same day and then call within 24 to change the 2nd part to a diff. date
Because sometimes when you do a regular one way with a stopover, the airline has a maximum layover time and if it exceeds then it automatically costs more, if you select multicity even if you change it late to have a longer layover there is no restriction of how many hours is maximum stopover.
Though YMMV depending on the airline and the agent
