AMEX T&C on all cards state you can't have had the card within the last 12 months. Most usually specify the family (Gold, Platinum, Zync). Usually no crossover biz to personal (i.e. you can get biz bonus when you have personal).
Sometimes they only disallow that card (i.e. if you have platinum you may still get gold).
How do you know what the terms are?
READ THE T&C ON THE APPLICATION PAGE. THEY ARE VERY CLEAR!!!

Update 4/24/13:
It's no longer clear who will get the bonus, but it's very clear who will not receive it.

Beware of the new addition to the T&C of personal cards:
If you are identified as a current American Express® Cardmember, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer.
We don't know yet the effects, it can't be good, so take it into consideration. It might be a way to cut off churners even after a year of having the product.

You should always send a SM several times. There were multiple reports of success if persistent enough after being denied the bonus. Don't bother calling, only SM! Don't give up so fast. Be creative and harsh. Say that a rep told you that you will get the bonus on the card. Follow up, demand an investigation and follow up again.

Maybe they flag popular bloggers for leniency not wanting to deal the backlash.

50k Gold Card bonus despite already having a platinum

I found this question asked by many but no answers so I decided to start a new thread hoping for some responses.

Not so long ago, there was an offer for a Premier Rewards Gold card with a signup bonus of 50k through creditcards.com.  The fine print on the offer read:

† Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months or any other Consumer ZYNC®, Green or Gold Card or Platinum Card® account within the last 90 days.

Has anyone had success getting the bonus despite already having one of the cards?  If so, how?

Yeah, so to get a "new" MR acct, one needs to close the old ones first?
Assuming if you don't close it, then a new app will automatically roll into any existing MR acct.

yah, I also always do that. But I'm still having trouble with my last SPG. I have a good tayna, because I called them after two months to ask how much longer I had to spend and how much I had to spend bec I was spaced out. And they told me what to spend, and didn't say I was ineligible. That sounds like an offer and acceptance to me.

On my 4BM from 6 months ago, I opened a MB Plat, MR Gold, SPG Biz, and SPG consumer.  I got the 50k for MB Plat (new MR account), but the MR Gold was assigned the same MR number and I got denied the bonus...I can get behind that being the reason for you getting the bonus and no one else getting it.

Prior to the 4BM I started 2 new SPG accounts and applied for the SPG Biz and SPG Consumer using those 2 new SPG account numbers.  At some point those 2 SPG accounts were automatically merged (definitely not by me) to my main SPG account.  I guess when I create a new SPG account I need to vary some of the information so that the accounts don't automatically get merged.

100k Bonus Points issue with Amex

I wasnt thinking and signed up for the 100k amex plat deal and already had one within last 12 months.  Is there anything I can say/do to have amex give me the points??

As per our records, you have a Business Platinum Card ending in ***** which was recently cancelled on 03/**/2013.

Since you already had the same card within the last 12 months, I am afraid, you would not be eligible for the bonus points on your existing Business Platinum Card.

(ps: the cancellation of the card had nothing to do with my attempt to get points - i cancelled it for another reason not relevant to this conversation)

I must've read this/similar q at least 5 times. The reason why you didn't find your answer is because there is no straight out answer, that's what YMMV means. Officially you can't get it. But if you're really good some have reported success. No need for this thread though
