Credit Card Advice
« on: December 29, 2012, 09:21:47 PM »
Hello,

I'm new to the world of credit cards so please bear with me as I speak on what is probably some basic topics.  I tried to do research on these topics, but I keep getting mixed answers.

Long story short, I got my first credit card 7+ years ago from Bank of America.  I also have a checking and savings account with BOA.  It started off as a student credit card, that now does nothing for me.  I pay annual fee of $30+ and get no rewards, points, or cash back.

First question, what credit card should I get?
* I don't want annual fees, but perhaps you can persuade me otherwise? Keep in mind I'm not a big spender.
* I pay my credit card balance in full each month, so interest rates don't matter.
* Most of my purchases are made online, particularly Amazon, or in restaurants on food.
* I have good credit score (750+)

Second question, should I cancel my current credit card? Does it hurt my credit score?

Third question, is there any other advice, tips, or recommendation you feel I should know?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

1. Any credit card you want as you will probably get accepted to.

Most CC that have annual fee are free for 1st year, you can read some more around here as how to go about switching this card into a different one when the year is over to avoid the fee.

2. Call BOA and ask them if they can switch this card into a different card that has no annual fee and keep the same CL.

3 .Yes, all this  :)

If it's your first and only card, yes, it will hurt score to cancel. If it's your only cc then you won't have utilization% (unless you're an au on someone else's card)
