Looking to go to india december time. looking at New Delhi / Mumbai trying to find a jewish tour guide. so far was suggested someone by the chabad shliach which turns out is his brother, so a little worried that he's a nogeh b'davar any suggestions?

im thinking of making a trip around pesach time to india. its quite a few months but im gonna do some small research now prob. so if anyone has any input, advice etc...on which cities or where to start and what to do etc..please share

Not a problem to get, there's an Indian TA office in NY that does it for you, don't remember how much it costs.

There are alot of visa agencies all over however they usually charge a premium for the service.

I'm surprised India has such small presence in DDF,

I need to be in Mumbai in Oct. and I need suggestions for kosher food and restaurants?! any do's and dont's.... Very much appreciated

Hi,

1st of all I want to clarify a misconception. there are only 2 chabad shluchim in india, in mumbai and bangalore. the rest aren't chabad but Messianics who took the name of chabad without permission and a lot of them don't even know basic stuff of judaism like kashrus etc. I'm saying this because I know from first hand about different things in some of those yellow places.

In mumbai, the only kosher place to go is the chabad house. there's someone there in the community, a secular jew which is not even shomer shabbos who pretends having kosher food etc but the only guy supervising it is himself...

Anyway India is a crazy country! like don't expect anything because nothing is like we think.

Actually, in mumbai there's a very nice guy, bentzion, he's the gabai in the shul "kneseth eliahoo" (in the tourist aria) and he knows everyhing about the jewish history here in mumbai. he took me for a tour in all the different shuls cemetaries and jewish places for just 500 rupees.

i have to agree at most part,

although there were a few shluchim/bochurim that have been in mumbai in the past few years on and off, so i dont know if anyone is there right now.

Last I heard there's a couple living there now (the husband is actually a good friend of mine).
They don't publicize their location (for security reasons), you have to get in touch with them.
