Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

Things change from years ago.
They added a new South America zone with Bolivia, Brazil, and Peru, effectively raising the cost of award flights to those countries.

What a superb documentary by AlJazeera.

Would love to visit the Amazon.  Ahh, and the Portuguese was also a nice refresher; can't wait to go back for a visit. Brazilians are just so cool.

A week in Rio may be a bit to long, really depending on your interests, but what is your hesitation with taking a toddler?

AWSOME report the Amazon is on my list of to do's, what time of year did you go? also I have purchased a ticket in 2005 Rio-Sao Palo - Iguzu on TAM website but in Portuguese and I paid as a Brazilian, it was like $70 and no questions were asked, Iwill do the same on on my next trip.

So I just looked into buying a TAM ticket on the Brazilian website.  I didn't put in my card info, but the fine print seems to say it only accepts Brazilian issued credit cards.  Also, they want a CPF number which I don't have.

Did it let you buy the ticket without a CPF number and using a US issued card?

It won't. I even generated a false CPF to try and it didn't work.

Not sure if he does as he doesn't live there anymore.

If he doesn't, do you have any suggestions on how to get a ticket from IGU-GIG without paying $367/OW ticket?
