Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

Maybe if id switch the order and do sp->falls->BA, otherwise seems too out of the way. Anyway haven't seem any good availability from BA for two in a good premium cabin (looking for 8/14 if I do this plan).

That's the best idea. If you're flying OW couldn't you connect in GRU on LAN-TAM?

So take LAN-TAM to GRU and connect to either TAM or AA through MIA or DFW.

Thanks so much Yehoshua and yalili. I did read both of your trip reports and they have been very helpful.
I will prob return from gru as that's where I've seen more award f availability. I'm thinking just paying for the Brazil visa and doing the following- changing departure to Thursday night and being in gru fri, shabbos, Sunday morning. Then BA for Sunday night-sometime Tuesday, and then going to the falls for Tuesday night-thurs afternoon and leaving thurs night going through gru. Am I rushing too much?

Sounds about right, but like yehoshua said its a lil short for Buenos Aires (2- days there)...

I can't find upthread or in either TR if there's a basic description of the different options for shabbos there. Could someone refer me to where it's been discussed or just quickly describe what the options are?

The two main jewish communities are located in Higienópolis and Jardins. The first being more Sefardi and the latter more Ashkenazi.

The best Chabads are in Itaim (Schildkraut), Jardins (Alpern), Morumbi (Goldberg) and Pinheiros (Rosenfeld). There is an IHG property near Pinheiros. Grand Hyatt not too far from most places. Hilton is near Morumbi. And I'm sure there are many more.

The restaurant scene is mostly in Higienópolis. With just a few in Jardins and in Bom Retiro.

Just some good advice
Now that Brazil is beefing up security at its borders for the World Cup there's a big chance that you'll be checked by immigration at places that have in the past been laxed

Do you have any idea which part of the country you want to go to (it's quite large)? Rio de Janeiro and Foz do Iguacu are both great, but I hear Manaus and Fernando De Noronha are amazing as well. Of course Sao Paulo has the largest Jewish community and most restaurants, but not a whole lot of touristy things compared to other cities.

Sums it up pretty well.
There's also the Panantal and Florianopolis.

This thread really needs a wiki.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I plan on spending a long weekend on SP and then checking out one or two other places in Brazil before heading to Argentina. Don't really have a preference as to where other than it be doable with the kids. Not really into Rio.
Is Iguazu Falls a must see?

I'm landing in SP on Thursday morning and plan on heading to GIG on Sunday night or Monday morning. Is that enough time in SP?
What are the must sees in SP?
