Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

Just back from Brazil I went from GIG to Ilha Grande (only 3 hours by bus from GIG) what an amazing beautiful beaches/ scenery, not sure why this not mentioned on DDF then went to MAO on a tour of the Amazon rain forest, as others have pointed out this was truly amazing to be embedded  with nature for 2 days and 1 night.

Let me know if you guys want a picture trip report.

We did a tour with Amazon Backpackers Tour for 2 days and 1 night. Cost per person was I believe about R250 per person, which included all boat transfers, pickup and dropoff from Manaus area hotel, meals (non kosher), lodging etc..

I did it with Gero Tours (Recommended by the local Chabad shaliach) www.amazongerotours.com/home.php?lang=english for $130 for 1 night 2 days  Everything is included, AC lodging, food,  hotel pickup, just FYI I negotiated on the tour price which you can do too.

Was in MAO for Shabos went on the tour Sunday morning got back late Monday afternoon.

Also the US Dollar is MEGA super strong now, everything is dirt cheap if your using US Dollars.

Trip report

We went to Sao Paulo,  Iguazu,  Manaus and Rio.  Used a combo of United,  American Delta and BA miles.
The Real is at 3.30 which isnt great. The Real should be closer to 4 to the Dollar for a well priced trip.
We stayed at the Regent Park hotel in Jardine for shabbat. We used Fransisco for airport transport(from this forum). He doesnt speak English but we communicated using whatsapp and the built-in google translate feature.  We went to the Matok restaurant and bought frozen airplane type meals which served us quite well in Iguazu.  We  were able to get shabbat hosting through a friend of a friend.

Flew to Iguazu and stayed in a local b and b close to the falls entrance.  Half day at Brazil side as well as the Bird Park.  Both excellent.  Next day the hotel arranged a taxi to take us to the Argentine side and wait  -R$130. Both sides are great and need to see both. Also did the boat trip on the Argentine side which was a thrill. They give you a bag to put your things in. Rain jacket  and shorts would be best since you get seriously wet.

On to Manaus  and stayed at Chez le rois which is a short distance to the chabad.  We ate at Chabad and also picked up meals for the next few days. Went to the opera house in Manaus but didnt do much else.  Manaus is huge, hot, humid and gritty.  We took a 2 night boat trip on the amazon. The boat is small and carries max of 10 passengers. There were 8 passengers on board plus the crew of 3. The crew consists of the guide,  the cook and the skipper.  There isnt much wildlife in this part of the Amazon but we got to see monkeys, a few birds, alligator and dolphins. Did a jungle walk, Piranha fishing, Dolphin swim, Indian village etc.  The trip was expensive for what you get and I think if you want to see Amazon wildlife you might be better off elsewhere e.g. Peru, Ecuador.  However it was a great experience being on the Amazon though.  We already had Yellow Fever shots and took anti malaria.  Spent shabbat with chabad and they were great.

Rio was excellent. Did the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf on our own and used a guide to do a afternoon walk through the city - Santa Teresa and Lapa etc.
Taxied to Sugar Loaf and took the shuttle to the Statue.  Stayed in Copacabana. Went to Shelanu and that was very good. Went to Deleite but they were closed?   Uber costs about 1/4 or 1/5 of the price of a taxi. Couldnt always get data service so thats tricky(Tmobile). We used Aero-taxi which is a r$50 flat fee to GIG since uber wouldnt our group with luggage.

Thanks for the write-up!

We had a driver for the day in Rio. After Corcovado, we drove through part of Parque nacional de tijuca. Stopping at Chinese Overlook. We saw some monkeys on the side of the road. We came out on the side of the park that is near the hand gliding.

Great report, I have spoken to people that went to Iquitos in Peru to see the Amazon and it is pretty much very similar to MAO.

Also from what I understand is you see the animals much closer during the dry season when there is less water.

How is 3.30 not great? Granted, it's not the record low, but everything is considerably cheaper than 1-2 years ago.
