Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

Thanks any advice on the visa's?
It costs $160 ( in retaliation to the US visa price, it actually stated on their website a Canadian citizen pays $65... )

In the mornings they take requests (expect to wait hours)

In the afternoon they issue the Visa's.

There's parking across the street for $25 a day

Its not finalized yet but there is a good chance that there will be a visa waiver during the summer for US and Canadians because of the Rio Olympics. You dont have to go to Rio or During the Olympics

That's really useful information for non-visa holders, although for visa-holders it just means you're not getting as much out of your visa if you visit during the waiver period.

Rio will, Iguazu or other cities shouldn't be as bad. It's like saying avoid the US because the Olympics are in SLC ('02).

I agree with part of that. First of all SLC was winter which doesn;t attract a fraction of what the summer Olympics does
and i'll bet Vegas and the GC (and possibly even LA? would you remember? ) saw a huge uptick in crowds around the SLC WO
I think you;d be right in saying Sao Paolo wont see much traffic..
Also the Brazilian Gov't is trying very hard to promote the entire brazil as a tourist dest. because of the Olympics, the US as a whole didn't

Ok, so ATL in the '96 WO. I didn't notice LA was any more crowded in '96 than it was any other summer. I wasn't around in '84 (last time the WO were in LAX), but the Special Olympics were in LA this past summer and no one even noticed.

I understand GRU may be busier than normal, mainly because most Int'l flights fly there exclusively in Brazil, but smaller cities like Iguazu, Manazu, Florianópolis, Recife, Salvador, etc? I can't imagine the amount of extra people who are coming for the Olympics would even be noticeable.

I wonder about ATL... who else may have benefited ? Orlando? New Orleans?
I know for the World Cup in Brazil and in South Africa all the "other destinations" benefited immensely and were much more crowded. Granted that the WC is played in many cities all over the country

True, plus the WC has way many more fans than the Olympics.
