Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

Would you suggest staying in SP longer than just Shabbos? Is there anything there worth seeing in doing?

I think arriving Friday morning and leaving Monday morning would be a good plan for SP.

I was never by chabad in Rio, but the Chabad Leblon location there is supposed to be a really happening and fun place for shabbos as well.
In Rio there's sugarloaf mounatain and of course a view of the beautiful city on the highest point along with you-know-who.
I went hang-gliding in Rio which was one of the more spontaneous and incredibly fun things I've ever done.  It was from a mountain a mile up, a 15 minute glide over the city, and then landing in the beach.  Plus it was just $50!

 yea yea

but its hard to read the threads if everyone quotes a very long post, now if a person will be nit-picking and responding to a bunch of what the other person posted, then Id understand also  if they were quoting a post that was on a different page or even a bunch of posts up page and wanted to make sure everyone knew which post they were referring to, but when the long post (not critizing your well informed post) is right above why waste the bandwidth (which I believe costs you $$) and why make everyone have to scroll further to read whats up

I am skipping Sau Paulo on my trip this August to South America and instead spending from a Thursday to Sunday morning in Rio. Is that enough time there? And is Rio better for tourist purposes than SP?

Also I will not be coming into the city with any food as this will be after a week in Peru/Bolivia so are there restaurants kosher groceries etc.?

there's nothing much to see in SP besides a busy city with 16-28 million people (heard many versions) half of them are homeless (be careful when walking down the street not to trip over any) and the crazy drivers on the roads, RIO is a tourist city so you are good with that but with Shabbos in middle i dont know how much time you have to tour.

IIRC there is only one kosher resturant there and it is milchigs, but there is a store which sells meat and other kosher stuff (although compared to argentina the kosher meat in Brazil sucks)

Ok so it is good I am spending more time in BA then. Do you know anything about Shabbos meals or takeout in RIO? The store that sells other kosher stuff do they carry a shabbos menu? Also which area is reccomended to stay there? I read negative reports about the Sheraton in terms of location as well as the actual hotel.

Oh fantastic please please post about your whole rio experience when you finish. I am going in August so the end of May gives me more than enough time to figure everything out.

I don't think you can buy shabbos meals in Rio.  Contact a shliach, like in Leblon, for hospitality.  There are probably full meals in the chabad house.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I happen to love eating meals with the frum people in different places so I will look into the chabad in Leblon. It would seem they are loacted near the nicer parts of town which is nice.

Oh fantastic please please post about your whole rio experience when you finish. I am going in August so the end of May gives me more than enough time to figure everything out.
i'm going in for less then a day and not going to tour so i don't think i can help you that much, but i will let you know as much as i can
