Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

This place was incredible. Literally shared a wall with the chassidisha shul, and was 5 minutes from both Chabad places. The owners is Jewish (not frum) so they understood our needs as well.
Looks great, but doesn't look bookable.

I will be in Sao Paulo in the near future for shabbos... a couple of questions for those in the know;  I saw the wiki, but I'm not sure how up to date it is.

1) is it safe to walk to shul at night on shabbos?  I will be staying near the FGV Law school (immediately south east of higienopolis)

2) which shuls can I rely on for food for shabbos (Friday night and Shabbos day)? - or should i buy and eat in my hotel room?

3)My understanding is that Higienopolis is outside of the Eruv? http://www.bdk.com.br/noticia_expansao-do-eruv---jardins-jardim-paulista-itaim-bibi-pinheiros-e-jardim-paulistano,14.htm      Is this up to date?

4) I've been in Israel for a long time where i've learned to appreciate the casual shabbos dress code - is it the same in Sao Paulo - will i stand out in shul in slacks and a dress shirt?

5) any general suggestions regarding local touring/eating?

There was a small (by NY standards, nearly non existent) kosher store I went to with some meat, cheese and some packaged foods, however there was so little stuff I didn't find it worthwhile. If you're in Copacabana for shabbos you can go to shul at least. We were at the Sheraton Leblon and we're not near a minyan. The hotel was ok, nothing special, but far from most touristy sights.

@Dan , you mentioned that the Leblon Chabad is special. That being said, is that enough of a reason to stay in Leblon over Copacabana? Have you been to the Copacabana Chabad?

I haven't been to either, just heard from others. I enjoy Shabbos in SP because that's where the people I know live.

I spent a Shabbos in Leblon and many many Shabbosim around SP. SP would be my recommendation all the way for Shabbos, many lively Chabad kiddushim. That said, Leblon does have the beach, and the best you get in SP is Ibirapuera Park.

1:25 connection at VCP at 8am with a large group. Nuts or not? I'm having misconnected baggage nightmares.

Alternative is 2:20 at BSB which I feel a lot more comfortable with, but the timing is a bit less ideal.

It's a huge airport- you might need to walk 30 min from one gate to another.

It's a huge airport- you might need to walk 30 min from one gate to another.

VCP is that huge or you are confusing with GRU? I don’t remember VCP being that huge at all.

GRU is huge but it's divided into terminals/concourses and has autowalks. For some reason in VCP it just felt like it's never ending maze.
