Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

Just adding a few more that i haven't been too, just based on what I hear from others I trust :)

Super K is the largest kosher supermarket in the area, located between Higienópolis and Perdizes. Inside there are two eateries, a Chinese place and a burgers fast food place. The Chinese place just opened up a few months ago whole the other had been around for a while. Supposedly very decent food and great prices. They are both within the large supermarket, so if your looking for groceries, you will probably come here.

Cantina Parma is another pizza shop, supposedly decent food and prices are ok too.

Buffet Naguilla is like it's name mostly a buffet place. They have an open buffet almost every Sunday and other days. Prices and food are both just ok.

Buffet Hebraico is located inside the JCC of São Paulo. Best bet would be to go there on a Sunday when they usually have a rodizio there, prices a bit high but supposedly good stuff.

There is also a dairy brunch kinda place in the jewish culture center on oscar freire. Not much info there.

Need some help with our upcoming trip to Brazil and Argentina (beg of July)... We're doing a lot of hopping around, but for this trip we have to.. so we get a taste of things.

Arrivin in Buenos Aires Tuesday 7pm. Were there until Thursday morning.
Want to get a good dinner Tuesday and looking for suggestions of what to do for Wednesday.

Thursday morning we want to fly to the falls at 5:40am arriving 7:20am. We found a flight with Aerolineas Argentinas for $170. On their site it's only $100 when paying with pesos, is there anyway to work this out?

We spend full day at the falls, maybe some rafting or something (open to suggestions). probably spend night at Sheraton. Then next morning cross border into Brazil and take flight at 6:50am arriving in Rio at 8:45. The flight is with Gol Linhas Aereas and is a crazy $350 each. We aren't flexible as it's friday and our only day to see Rio, is there any currency trick to get the price lower?

Friday arrive in Rio and need some ideas what to do during the day.
HERE's the big question, this is during World Cup Finals.. Hotels are pretty solid booked, any suggestions where we should be spending shabbos? what part of town is the most exciting? someone mentioned chabad on the beaches?  Any help here greatly appreciated.  (prob not best shabbos to be there, but it's our only option)
Also any suggestions for motzei Shabbos..

Sunday we plan on flying in the morning direct to Florianópolis, and we'll be there until Tuesday afternoon. We'll connect back to the States via Sao Paolo for a nice dinner (whats the best place if we only have one meal in Paolo, Top notch place...)

Thanks a lot for your help.

-The Peso rate requires an Argentine passport AFAIK.
-GOLs Portuguese site is often cheaper and has more specials than the english site.
-Not going to Manaus? Seems like your type of adventure and there's a great shliach there as well.

I have a feeling we'll be back... we're trying to fit as much as possible in very little time, the trip to Manaus is longer.. and doesn't seem like the best place to dive...

seems like the flight I was looking for on Friday isn't available.. It's becoming a bit of a challenge to visit Rio, is it worth changing things around to make it work? or is it not a must? It's during world cup, so things will prob be hectic all over the place..

If we do modify what suggestions would you have for shabbos? (not interested in S. Paolo..)

What a fantastic trip you have planned, though if I may say you're rushing it a bit too much, that you might no get to enjoy anything the right way. One day in buenos aires is tough, the city is huge and so so much to see there, and that is not including the attractions outside the city - like lujanzoo, boat to Uruguay and the Tigre area. Good dinner in buenos aires you go really one place - Asian. Reviewed by many people here including myself, see my Buenoe Aires trip report. There is also Al Galope, great food and extremely cheap, though bad service and very overcrowded.

170 is not so bad for a ticket, I have seen it higher. But maybe look into getting an avios ticket for just 7.500 ba avios points. You have to call up ba to check availability.

I would highly recommend seeing the Brazil side too, great views from there. Though with your schedule it's not so possible unless you go earlier on the week.

Shabbos in Rio would be great if you can get a place in Leblon, which is where the huge beit chabad is just a block away from the beach. Motzei shabbos head out to Copacabana or Lapa always fun stuff happening there.

Florianopolis is the only place where you are getting a good amount of time maybe even a bit much. Planning maybe to go there also in July :) for dinner in São Paulo only great place is Nur.

Haven't been able to get myself motivated go back to Brazil since almost being killed there, but Manaus is on the bucket list.

Manaus is on the equator, same temps all year: http://www.weatherbase.com/weather/weather.php3?s=23328

I'm amazed my parents let me go after hearing about the rosh yeshiva's father murder the year before I went...

Thanks a lot for your very helpful reply...

Supposing I make Rio work, should I go to Florianopolis Just from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon? would I need more time in Rio? I'm arriving there 11am shabbos is at 4pm and I can either leave sunday morning, night or monday morning to florionopolis.

I am looking into homaway for Leblon not sure yet bec hotels there aren't really available. but seems like Copacabana also has a chabad house is that worth considering? best western there is available...

I'm not really interested in Sao Paolo, bc we don't like big huge cities with regular lubavitch communities.. more interested in chabad house, tourists etc..

Any other pointers greatly appreciated..

SP has over a dozen chabad houses, many of which are very unique with charismatic shluchim and fun crowds.  Especially on Friday night.
