Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

Unrelated is very different than a spouse. I believe the site says specifically that a spouse is fine.

It seems leaving the airport van take 3 hours on it's own. Just pack a GOOD sandwich

data point for those interested in brazil visas: went to NY cosulate today. not a bad wait, i was there total 45 mins. but they wont rush visas and will only be ready for pickup in over 2 weeks. they're pretty rushed, and didnt look at anything, just took the form from online, money order, and passports and told me to come back toward end of month. tried to get sooner as i need passport for a different country but she did not help.
i didnt find parking so easily around there and ended up in an icon lot (with a coupon printed before so wasn't too bad) a few blocks away.

Thanks a lot... Just got back from a trip to Argentina and Brazil..

To be honest was really not impressed.. Would take South East Asia any day over S. America..

Here's a short trip report. Landed in buenos aires (AA FIRST old aircraft blah) stayed at the hilton very nice hotel heated roof pool and nice sauna in men's rooms.. hotel is a great choice.

Checked out the city - MacDonnalds is a total waste of time their burgers taste like horse meat (not that I know what that tastes like) and look nothing like the photos you see everywhere. Be careful as the mall which has the kosher MacDonnalds has two non kosher ones.

Asian is a great restaurant - sweetbread, huge steak (for two - biggest I've ever seen weights over 2lbs with the bone) great iced lemonade great desserts - great restaurant.

Flew to iguazu and stayed at Sheraton - horrible hotel it's like a 3* in Israel. If you appreciate a classy hotel you'll be very disappointed.. Pool isn't heated, indoor hotub wasn't working.. Room is dated bathroom is too... It's convenient for seeing the falls by foot but after you do that (2 hr walk max to see it all) nothing else to do. Although we had a free upgrade to suite for our second night I cancelled and checked out early - really didn't care for it. Entered Brazilian side (duty free is overrated checked all prices nothing special) and found what seemed like a 5* resort - Iguazu Resort. Lobby and grounds were much nicer then Sheraton but here too pools not heated and nothing to do there.

Took a day trip to Paraguay which is mostly for shopping and was absolute waste of time.. It's 20 mins from hotel but nothing there just some fake watches and underwear and socks (and some electronics).. Market is not crafts just a bunch if nonsense.

Flew to rio for a nice Shabbos.. Chabad in leblon is very impressive one block from beach gorgeous Chabad house and great meals at people's houses.

City is beautiful - lots of nice view points.. They have a decent thin pizza place deleite chalavit, a Sunday buffet at the bar Ilan school and another restaurant at the Jewish club. Non of the foods were amazing but when you're hungry it'll do.

Rio has no quiet beaches so for people looking for that it's a waste of time

Flew to florianopolis, seems like a nice island but it's winter now and quite cold. I imagine in summer it's nice but again it seems like it would be packed with beach goers.

Flew back through Sao Paolo and tried finding a place toe at lunch but everything closes between 3-7 so keep that in mind.

Some other notes compared to SE ASIA everything is a fortune from taxis to hotels to food. No one speaks English - even in airports very few speaks English. I'm Brazil they barely understood Spanish - impossible to communicate (even calling  kosher restaurants is a problem finding Hebrew or English)

Not possible to get nearly as good bang for buck as Asia. Hotels are really underwhelming...

Won't be going back there anytime soon. The World Cup made things a little more interesting but without that would have been a real waste of time.
My 2 cents...

Flew back to jfk with the new aa first - amazing service and great product

How in the world did you not stay at the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires?
And Argentina is expensive? Did you not get 12+ pesos per dollar (and a 10% discount at Asian for paying in pesos)?

Did you do the heli tour or waterfall boatride in IGU?

I'd have spent more time in EZE.

Argentina wasn't expensive got the good rate.. I had free Hilton so took and was very happy with it.. Really no complaints about eze didn't know 10% Asian discount but food was worth the $200 we paid (for 3)

Would have done rafting in igu but was over flooded and cancelled lately. Also water is brown with mood due to floods.. But in any case there is only so much falls you can see. I personally think one day there is enough. If hotel was great staying longer would be option but it's really sad the hotel sitch there

Had friends that went there a few weeks ago, and they had the same issue, they weren't allowed to go to the devils throat because of over flooding. And the water was very brown. When I was there in December it was excellent. And you definitely need at least a day on Argentina alone.

Came across this website which has great information for many places around Brazil. - http://www.braziltravelblog.com/destinations/. They are definitely missing a few great places (Gramado and Parque Nacional dos Aparados da Serra come to mind). Though it still covers most places.

just an fyi, dunno if this was mentioned here but brazilian visas from ny consulate are not by appt only.
also, is it safe to assume I can pick up my visa if online status shows ready for pick-up, even though its not the date on my receipt yet?
You can probably pick them up. Mine were ready a few days early.

It's hard to say. I didn't have a line when applying (just a 2 minute wait). I waited maybe the same amount of time or a few minutes more to pick them up.

The LA consulate has been like that for some time.
