Kosher Food Options
Contact Chabad Parana for updated information regarding any Kosher food there. Otherwise plenty of snacks and fruits.

Hotels with Points
None.

Airport Transfer Options
Cab - They are metered from FLN to where you are going. We stayed in Barra Lagoa and it was R$55.
Executive Bus - Yellow buses go between major destinations to the airport and bus terminal - R$6.
Public Bus - Not from the airport. But from the bus station it's tricky but doable - R$3.

Major Activities
Water-sports and relaxing. During peak-season (Dec-Jan) there is plenty to do, such as scuba diving, gliding, boat tours and more. We were there during winter break (Jul) and the waves were great for surfing, and the dunes at Joaquina were great for sandboarding.

There are beautiful beaches all over the island of Florianopolis. During the winter the north beaches tend to be the warmest as the wind doesn't attack it directly. Center/east beaches are really nice, the best for surfing, but can get cold. Mole and Joaquina are the most popular from those. Didn't trek down south on my trip there, but the beaches are supposedly great as well, though very calm and sleepy kind of towns next to them and people going fishing there.

A small town on the west side of the island, has a boardwalk and bicycle path along the water, nice place to go for sunset. Old historic architecture there, many buildings there hundreds of years old. It's about 10-15 minutes north of downtown FLN.

IIRC the Marriott is in Copacabana so it's closer to kosher food. The Sheraton was okay, but they were renovating it when we were there last November. It's also a little bit outside Leblon which means that it's a little far from many attractions and also costs more from the airport.

Definitely go with the JW, it is right on the Copacabana beach. Which will put you in the center of all the action. Beautiful hotel too, went in to see it. Like Yehoshua said Sheraton is far out of the center.

Do NOT rent a car. Totally not worth it. Take taxis, metro and walk.

There is a shuttle directly between airport and hotel for 13 reais. Comfy air conditioned buses.

I have a choice of where to spend an extra day.

2.5 days in GIG and 1.5 in IGU or 1.5 in GIG and 2.5 in IGU.

I'll be with 2 kids so no crazy hiking or trails in IGU.

Opinions?

Would probably say the first option. But from what time till what time would you be in IGU. - You would want one full day on Argentina side. Question is if your half day would be within the times that the Brazil park is open to visit for 3-4 hours.

I agree with Ya'alili. You'll need one full day in Argentina and a few hours in Brazil at the very least. You can find more to do for another half a day, but after that you may get board if you don't want to do adventurous exploring.

We'd be arriving in IGU around noon and departing IGR around 6pm the next day.

If you go straight to the Brazilian park (5 minutes from IGU) you can spend a few hours there.

You the Argentina side the next day if you wake up early. I know that it may sound weird, but in AEP the recommended us get to the airport 2 hours before even for a domestic flight which turned out be necessary. Assuming you need to be at the airport at 4:30pm, you would have time to walk both trails and go to the devil's throat. You may not have time for a boat ride, but it should work. Another whole day would definitely be too long.

Should def be enough time. Brazil park closes about 5-6 pm. To maximize your time I would suggest that you stay on the Argentina side for the night. This way you can start your day there right when they open at 8 and you won't be rushing anywhere the day.

There's a meat restaurant open on Thursday nights and another one open on Sunday, although Deliete was excellent we went twice.
Also do coke products need a hechsher in rio? What about milk?
Coke doesn't need a hechsher.

There is a kosher meat place inside the Brazilian Israeli Club on Rua Barata Riberio 489 in Copacabana. They are open daily from 11:30-3 and 7-10:30. Good food.
I am just finishing dinner there now :)
