Thanks for the update dan!

My question is (a bit off topic but not too far) how come sometimes Amex lets my pay up my balance online (or most of it) before the statement closes and sometimes they says something to the effect of "You have a exceeded your limit of $0 on the payment". My SPG cards seem to sometimes let me pay and sometimes give me that error. My Plat card always gives me that error.... I really would like to pay down my balances and find it quite annoying... what am I missing?

Has anybody tried this when their account had a $0 balance? Or with an overpayment?

My question is if I have a $5k line available with a $0 balance and I make a $5k payment from a chase account, will I have $10k avail immediately?

would it let you do that? AFAIK this only works when paying cc with the linked bank account, not when using bill pay

This feature is only for online payments? Its doesn't work for payments made in the branch?

Update: I made a prepayment and it DID NOT extended my CL.

It posts as a credit on your account but you won't be able to spend more than your original CL.
