Right, but it's hard to get hard data on Jewish communities, so you take what you can get.
My guess is that the Cleveland number is much closer to reality for a decent home costs in a Jewish community than the LA and NYC numbers. And that just makes the point that much stronger.

Fair enough.

FTR, I'm not debating your core argument here. I just don't think you can use these lists --which don't take into consideration the unique needs of the frum community-- as proof of anything. I don't care what the median home price is in the whole metro area, I care what it is in the specific neighborhood(s) I would live in.
They list $410k for NYC. I don't know if you can even get a studio apt for that in Crown Heights these days. You're not getting a house for less than a million without venturing out into the, for lack of a better word, "darker" parts of town.
Marine Park has plenty under 500. Not big, but beats baying rent...

Chalila. How would your daughter get a shidduch?
You'll find her a Chosson aligned with her Hashkafah? :)

While I lived in Queens for a while and would be my choice of where to live if I had to live in NYC, moving out is always the best choice (when practical).

My point exactly!
If you need to work in the city port authority is  a 17 min train ride.
I'm not who you think I am.

Dan, you never answered the question: Are your total housing costs $700 a month???

I'm guessing few in the Jewish community area pay  anywhere near that. Especially since that equates to a $250k loan with 0% interest and no property tax/insurance. With 3.75%/30y interest and no property tax, that payment increases to $1167. With 1.75% property tax, that payment increases to $1576 a year.

I admit that I'm simplifying things a bit, but $700 is unreasonable IMO.

Skipping the math for a second, you wrote a $250K loan when many buy their house for $150K...

Yup, that's about the average sales price in Beachwood acc to Zillow. What would you say the norm  is in the Jewish community?

In University Heights my friends have all paid between $90K and $140K. Average is prob $120K.

Personally I bought in Beachwood, but the joke is on me.  The UH school system has gotten so bad that kids entering Kindergarten this year will get free private school vouchers for life. And there's no signs of their system improving..

There are a lot of factors at play, I believe I posted them earlier in this thread.

I would say that my job is the reason I'm not moving, but one of my largest clients is in CLE.

It's mostly family. If I could convince my wife to move outside of tri-state, it would probably be to Israel (no offense to CLE).
