I hear there is a new community starting in union NJ. A few pioneers are moving in from Israel and there is a yeshiva moving there too.

Housing is relatively cheap ( unless you absolutely MUST live in a fancy duplex, in a fancy complex in Lakewood..)

It's a great location for jobs in NYC north jersey.

Schools options are Passaic or Edison.

Who's in??
Do you have any more info on this?s

Nope.. I know that there are a few families that are very committed to moving there but don't know them personally at all.

Linden yeshiva is definitely moving there.

That chart makes me a bit curious since I've heard that taxes in DEN can be as low as $100 a month. How can PITI be $1600 then?

Re: CLE... I find it funny that the modern school wasn't considered "mainstream" in your mind, while litvish is. Different viewpoints :)

Re: the Union community... I couldn't believe you listed Jewish school options as Passaic and Edison while totally ignoring Elizabeth! But then I realized you must be coming at it from a Yeshivish perspective, and then yes, Elizabeth is not an option. However, I think it's still worthwhile to include since not everyone in a community will fit the exact same mold. In terms of the Linden Kollel moving there - if that's true, it's such a shame. The Kollel built up Linden from it's ancient Orthodox community, and from what I've heard, the place recently took a turn and is not a growing Conservadox community. Sad to see all that growth fall to the point of moving the Kollel.

Yes, Elizabeth is definitely a good option (I'm hardcore yeshivish ;) )

And yes, sadly the growing linden community took a left turn...

The UH school system has gotten so bad that kids entering Kindergarten this year will get free private school vouchers for life. And there's no signs of their system improving..
What's the cap on the value of the vouchers? Does it fully cover the local Jewish schools' tuition?

@yehuda, are you aware that the modern Orthodox community is a tiny fraction of the size of the yeshivish community?

If were just telling people to move where it's cheaper, then move to Texas. $160k a beautiful house. No education tax. No income tax. Booming economy.

And if we're being realistic, then we don't just tell people to move

I'm aware he's a shaar torah boy. But He wrote that kg is 600k for 5 bdr and kgh is not much more.
Besides, where can you get a 5 bdr in kg for 600k?  Im not fully familiar with kg prices but I do know that someone just paid 900k for a 5 bdr old house that likely needed updating in kg  (and no it wasnt near forest park).

No ones paying under 700 anymore. Even for a fully attached 18 ft.

I would say that my job is the reason I'm not moving, but one of my largest clients is in CLE.

It's mostly family. If I could convince my wife to move outside of tri-state, it would probably be to Israel (no offense to CLE).
Salaries even within the same firm at the same level can be more than 20% lower in cle than nyc

Last 3 houses within 3 blocks of me went for between $600-650k, all within the year. Another few blocks away I know one that went for under $600k. All of them needing only basic work (painting, carpeting, etc.) at most.
