Technically, New Hyde Park
-1 (I think).
Its more like Valley Stream. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think New Hyde Park is more north (as a matter of fact. it is part of 2 towns, Hemstead and North Hemstead).

I don't actually live in this new place so can't post all the details. But, I personally know the Rabbi of the nearby YI (N. Bellmore) and he is AWESOME! Also, he is related to me

Dunno if that adds to anyone's decision

Been looking lately into Staten Island.
I know that's a community that never took off, but lately a lot of chasidim have been moving in.
Very intrigued to see if the litvish-yeshivish community will do the same.

So SI has a small community currently, feels a little like the mountains from the one shabbos I spent there.
Planning to go for another...
Has an eiruv, which is a big plus.

Salaries even within the same firm at the same level can be more than 20% lower in cle than nyc

I'd be lucky if my decrease would only be 20%

ask away if u have any questions or want to visit. was raised in SI, lived in KGH (another transient) with the Mrs for a few then moved back to Willowbrook once we could buy a house (with our mortgage/taxes/insurance on a nice semi less than rent...).
Unfortunately, since the recent influx (dont get me wrong, loving the new chassidim), willowbrook prices have gone up pretty severely (15-20%), there is a small supply of houses in the main neighborhood, and not enough have moved into the outer areas to expand it (the eruv goes much further than the nuclear 10 block main area encircling the Young Israel and R Pollack's shul). so the value proposition is not what it was 5 years ago.
as to your question, there is definitely a nice sized core litvish-yeshivish community (i was once identifiable as part of that :)) mainly based on the Willowbrook Kollel at R Pollack, plus a nice number of people connected to the Chofetz Chaim high school.

A group of yungerleit from Belz are looking to move to SI at once. Looking at Manor Heights because there aren't enough houses available in Willowbrook.

A friend of mine just bought in Willowbrook. 2,500 square feet for $415,000.
thats pretty good, prices have recently moved to the $450-500 (depending on level of work needed) for semi's, with full detached houses at 600-700k.

A group of yungerleit from Belz are looking to move to SI at once. Looking at Manor Heights because there aren't enough houses available in Willowbrook.
makes sense, its still within the eruv, though they probably wont take advantage of the nearby kosher dunkin donuts :) but i honestly dont think there are enough houses there too. SI is pretty spread out and right now zillow is showing 8 houses for sale in manor heights (including clunkers), so they have to go door to door propositioning, which is annoying and not cost effective...

Been there a couple of times knocking... also have a realtor helping us out.
Range for semis seem to be asking 450-500 but usually negotiable. Just missed out on a gorgeous house for 475... oh well.
I heard ppl wanna try to expand near the girls school, but don't think I wanna be a pioneer there.
Would prefer to be near the kollel, but there just doesn't seem to be much available right now.

The high school is moving to Bradley iinm, so my guess is more litvish ppl would stay closer to that end than near the YI where the high school is now?

who knows, plenty of people just walk from wherever (15 minutes from one side to the other), but R Pollack's shul really is the center for litvish, plus aroundroanoke street (and other than the small group around the Agudah), right now very little frum by bradley other than the chabad building and the sephardic shul on top of buchanan. should probably take this to pm (dont want to clog up this thread with minutae)

What's the school situation like in SI? Do lots of kids travel in to Brooklyn? Does anyone go till Jersey for school?
chassidish kids go to brooklyn, some modern families send kids to jec in jersey, most peeps in between send kids to local schools, rjj boys/girls (separate buildings in different areas for now) is a litvish black hat elementary school/yeshiva (based on hanhala) with a pretty mixed student body leaning heavily toward black hat (but I send my kids there, and I no longer wear one), Jfs is a more modern mostly co-Ed elementary school. Both basically work together.
For high school there is a boys Chofetz chayim and yeshiva of Staten Island in a different area, but more modern boys/peeps looking for more secular studies bus to jersey (jec). For girls choices generally are bruria in jersey, Manhattan and prospect park (not sure how many still go there).
