And yet several new families are moving here every single week and manage to find something to do.
A family making $80K here puts you way ahead of a family making $120K in NYC.
So a family making 100 can move to cle and make 60?

Let's run the numbers after taxes and monthly expenses, you can start with NYC living, family of 5 making $100K in a 3BR house or APT.

My father is retiring soon from his government job. Hopefully he will still get his pention for awhile before that system goes bust. His same job he has in N.Y. gets at least 30% more than out of NYC. So with his pension rates he'll be technicaly having more money after retirement than if he would of had the same job OOT. Plus the house he bought is already at 350% and he hasn't owned it for too long, and doesn't stop going up way faster than inflation.
I'm not who you think I am.

As a "proffesional" accountant, I have yet to hear from a recruiter of a job outside NYC.
If you want a job you have to be where thousands of companies are..

Yeah, they pay %25 less in cle.. Which accounts for the lower cost of living.

Anyway, I'm looking for private accounting job.
Around Lakewood though, there are literally only a handful of decent paying jobs total. The job market out of NYC is absolutely dismal.

Someone making $75K in CLE will be doing far better than the guy making $100K in NYC.
Are you saying every accountant outside of NYC aren't getting by?

I don't understand something. If there currently 8 kollelim opened up in the past 5 years in Cleveland there must be something there the average yeshivish guy without a degree can do. I don't believe for one second that there would be more people going if it wasn't worth it. There is now a kollel opening with 100 people. I'm sure there are enough jobs. Especially that there are more and more people coming in that creates more jobs.

Hmm?? How do more people in kollel prove there's a job market? How many people left kollel (from the 5 new ones) and got jobs in the last 5 years?

Not at all. I believe that the lower cost of living is accurately accounted for by the lower salaries.

I am saying that in my personal experience, living in central/South NJ, the actual job market is dismal to non existent.

I'm not sure how good the job market is in Cleveland though. It is probably much better than Lakewood.. I do have a buddy working in my firm's Cleveland office. - His office is around 200 ppl, while our NYC office employs a few thousand.

As far as corporate jobs in Cleveland, I hear it is more manufacturing/industrial. IE Less white collar jobs than in major financial cities like NY.

I can say definitively, that my current occupation doesn't exist in CLE . If it had , I would have been in CLE already . (Probably still will end up there , just in a different capacity.)

I work freelance in hashgacha . Specifically , outside (hotels, homes, clubs, etc.) parties for various caterers. Also some industrial for the national and some heimishe hashgachos.
While CLE and surroundings  has industrial work specifically cheese and grape juice, there is very little hotel catering going on (based on my research) and the local market  can't even keep the local part time mashgichim busy enough (unless you want to sit by the cheese vats for hours on end) but I'm sure something will come up soon. (At least I hope so since my landlord is putting my house on the market.)

Chicago is a great pshara in this conversation (other than the awful weather)

You mean Obama / Rahm Emanuel / Blagojevic land? Even DeBlasio isn't as bad, and he's a true commie / Bolshevik.

While I have toyed with the idea of moving OOT, I don't know how I might adjust after being a city dweller my entire life, and I don't think I have the educational CHOICES out of town that I have here. While some places might have a great school, an inevitable mismatch for a child might come down the road, and there might just not be any other option.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
