You mean Obama / Rahm Emanuel / Blagojevic land? Even DeBlasio isn't as bad, and he's a true commie / Bolshevik.

While I have toyed with the idea of moving OOT, I don't know how I might adjust after being a city dweller my entire life, and I don't think I have the educational CHOICES out of town that I have here. While some places might have a great school, an inevitable mismatch for a child might come down the road, and there might just not be any other option.
I live in yyz. While there is slightly less going on, it's still a major metropolis. I don't think the adjustment is as big as you think.
I hear re the schooling choices. But I'm not convinced that you need 25 choices for your kid

I don't understand something. If there currently 8 kollelim opened up in the past 5 years in Cleveland there must be something there the average yeshivish guy without a degree can do. I don't believe for one second that there would be more people going if it wasn't worth it. There is now a kollel opening with 100 people. I'm sure there are enough jobs. Especially that there are more and more people coming in that creates more jobs.
Care to elaborate which 8 kollelim opened up within the last 5 years ?
And what kollel is opening up with 100 people ?!

Life is as good as you make it...

How do more people in kollel prove there's a job market? How many people left kollel (from the 5 new ones) and got jobs in the last 5 years?
It doesn't prove anything. I went to check out CLE a few months back.
Most of the kollel people who I have spoken to, that went to work, either were Lucky enough to get a job through family connections , started their own business, or started college to become a professional.
You don't have the luxury of joining a heimishe business  that will give you a job bec your parents etc. know the owner.

YYZ was indeed a place I considered.

That being said, I have a choice of 3 boys schools and 3 girls schools that offer education from preschool through high school/mesivta, all within walking distance, and all of them celebrate what we call ״חסידישע ימים טובים״, and a couple of other schools that only offer certain grades. I don't think I can find any community that comes close in terms of educational choices for me (other than E.Y. and possibly Paris and London).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Also celebrated in out-of-town schools where you can own a house and a backyard on one salary.

Thank you. I knew I must have missed some.

However in which OOT community do I have a CHOICE of several schools celebrating the above?

Each of which are equally obnoxious and difficult to schedule appointments

Public transportation is not cheaper than a 15 min ride with no tolls.
You can listen to a shiur, etc. It's not like we're talking about an hour drive. You should all really try a short commute. It's really something else.

I live in yyz. While there is slightly less going on, it's still a major metropolis.
you live in yyz ? I'll take my 35 minute commute or mass transit, with all the additional expenses, over the ridicules housing costs of yyz.

No reason to get so defensive and combative. I never suggested you move to yyz or that yyz is the be all and end all (trust me, it's not).
B"H I was able to afford a house and got in when the market was a little lower than now so that's not nogeah for me

I actually got my Nexus/GE at YUL, which (along with YYZ) I found much more difficult to schedule an appointment than JFK or EWR.

DW and two kids got or are scheduled in JFK (which was easier to schedule earlier in the year) and they were in and out in less than 10 minutes. Another son was lucky to get an appointment at US Customs House in lower Manhattan (someone must have cancelled) and they seemed a little obnoxious, but his card just came on Shabbos after I found something they would accept as proof of address (jfk didn't ask for anything).

I guess this issue is actually a plus for YYZ and YUL, as kids under 18 get Nexus/GE for free!

obviously moving to a city for Global Entry appts once every 2 years isn't the priority as much as having a large, affordable house every day of the year, as well as a decent backyard, space to park 1-2 cars, and good chinuch options with small, quality class sizes and teachers & children who are positive influences.
