Absolutely.
Just having to deal with heavy traffic and alternate side puts a damper on your mood.
Getting home and not finding parking? Nisht fa' mir.

The flip side of that is that a lot more is within walking distance and great public transportation.

Lakewood (at least some areas) seems to have the worst of both worlds. Traffic and parking issues and schools/shopping not within reasonable walking distance.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Sometimes this thread is silly. If you are choosing a place to move to based on parking spots at the grocery store...
Personally, we moved out of NYC to get away from some of the high paced pressures (both in terms of style of living, QOL, work-life balance, etc. as well as the keeping up with the Joneses attitude). This has both pluses and minuses, but we are happy to be out of it. It's also nice(sometimes ) to have a little space from family (also comes with its pluses and minuses). Simplifying the question to backyard size and parking spaces is silly

So is being judgmental a remnant of your IT days, or is that an OOT trait ??? ???

To many people parking and a backyard for the kids is a serious QOL concern. To others being within walking distance of anything needed is what determines QOL.

I never said that it's not part of the equation. But if that's where it starts and ends...
I don't think that's judgemental because I don't think that people are actually making the decisions like that. It's just the way it comes out in this thread

Thread title is pros and cons of places.
How many people actually ever get up and make a big move? - I mean after a couple of years of marriage. It's virtually impossible. Or at least extremely complex

Pick me

BTW, I haven't mentioned it, but one of our main requirements was to find a place with a vibrant makom Torah

Um. Try one of the hundreds of couples who have moved to CLE?
Good for my house though, value has gone up by about 40% in 5 years.

Is that why you're telling people to move to CLE??? :)

+1. Same situation in Denver. Many people honestly move first for job opportunities (and since there are palatable community/shul/education options) they don't dismiss the Job out of hand and end up staying because of COL and they love some of the aspects of living out of town and the lifestyle.

i've heard that because of the legalization of certain substances in Colorado the housing market is insane. can't find reasonable apartments anywhere... is that true? are you seeing more traffic in the last year than 5 years ago?

The economy is booming here and marijuana definitely has a place in that but people are moving here for tons of reasons.  Rentals and houses have gone up significantly, so we are a good bit more expensive now than CLE or places like that but they are still WAY cheaper than LA or NY.

Just wondering: Which city/cities in the U.S. have the best year round climate? In NY/NJ we seem to have pretty bad summers and winters. ::)

LA and SD by far. But you'll pay $$$$$ for that.

Houston/Dallas?  I know Dallas gets pretty hot though.

FWIU Dallas isn't humid most of the time (like LA) and Houston is super humid all the time. CMIIW.

NY is really only unbearable for a week or two in the winter and a few weeks in the summer. Most of the summer is uncomfortable but not too terrible, not nearly as bad as FL. And what NY'ers call unbearable cold would probably be just an average day for CLE...

I'm not saying the weather is great here, I would probably call it "consistently mediocre," it's usually not that great but it rarely gets really bad either.

SD: better year-round weather (and cheaper housing). LA: better schools and restaurants.
