https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_Day_Carnival

this is a huge taxpayer expense in hiring police officers, security, and massive garbage clean up after this annual loud and disruptive event.

Thousands of dollars of business income is lost, and the children often cannot start school until later because of the huge crowds that come in and block the streets. History of violence and shootings each year -- and the parade participants are not even residents of CH. They are from other areas and not representing members of the CH community. Quote from wikipedia: "Some of the Caribbean islands represented in the parade include Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Barbados, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Saint Vincent and Grenada, etc.."

Ugh..
It's pretty bad, but used to be much worse.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Some yeshivas start earlier. (especially on a year like this, many schools that usually start after labor day already started a week or two ago.)

Weíre talking about Yiddishe schools. You think itís right to have this day off a week before ראש השנה?

True or BS?

this one is definitely true. LADWP has to be the most unreliable large utility in the world, and the most expensive. Not uncommon to put in generators just because of the frequent overloads, like you live in rural Africa. https://www.dansdeals.com/shopping-deals/bh/cyberpower-1000va-10-outlet-uninterruptible-power-supply-99-99-shipped-bh-50-coupon/#comment-1367283

It's actually more common then you may think for people to do it.

"and, I suppose, the scorn of your neighbors, since the patch of pavement that your car occupies will not have been cleaned."

Except that when I lived in Boro Park, the days the street sweepers came and the days of alternate side matched up exactly zero times. But as long as I had to waste 2 freaken hours twice a week everyone was happy.

The underlying assumption is flawed. Most NYC neighborhoods have alternate side parking on nearly every day of the week, so I would expect more than one ticket per week.

+1. When the street sweepers do come, they merely spread the filth around more evenly.

It could be less since it's suspended so often that if you end up on the same sidw, it's probably closer to only ~3 weeks per month that it's enforced. If you were parked on a Monday side, there'd only been 1 Monday in effect since late August (Labor, RH, Sukkot, Shemeni Atzeres, and Columbus day it was suspended).

Like where? I've never heard of a single neighborhood like that. Do you mean streets that have no parking during the weekday? Because that's different from street cleaning restrictions.

I don't live there anymore, but in Crown Heights, there were streets that had street cleaning on alternate sides on 2-3 days a week.

If someone has a car that they just move from side to side and never use then they should GET RID OF THE CAR! As @12HRS said the issue is parking when going in and out. The best $175 I use a month is on a parking spot next door to me
