And what do you think happens when in-towners move OOT? Same thing happened here.

This is why it's opening and why there's tension between the lifers and the voucher seekers.

Lights, sirens, and hatzalah are all just fun until somebody in your life is saved by them.

Correct, but most of us have at least 1 friend/relative who joined Hatzolah (for the lights & sirens /action) and dropped out after 2-5 years, realizing that not everyday itís action & not everyday you get to save someoneís life

And I understand the need for that in a city where it would take 20 minutes otherwise.

But in a city that has ridiculously fast response times, is this the best use of community resources?
Maybe it is and we've been missing out for years, but the question is fair.

Or maybe they dropped out because it is very demanding? Leaving countless shabbos seudos, sedorim, davening, family time, etc. Training, keeping cars and equipment in perfect shape, having neighbors die in ur hands, etc. It all is time consuming, takes away from other obligations, emotional and so on. Life situations change and people can't always keep it going.

1. Having another few dozen people in your neighborhood trained and ready to go will only make things faster. In many emergencies, every second counts and could literally be the difference between life and death.
2. In an emergency, would you rather be cared for by some random person or a friend, neighbor, relative, and/or another Yid?

BTW many cities and municipalities don't allow lights and sirens on private vehicles

And less than that in Beachwood IME.

What's the response time in Brooklyn?

IIRC average hatzalah response time in Flatbush and BoroPark is under a minute.

No doubt 4 minutes to 1 minute can save a life.

But will it cost millions in tzedaka? Will Cleveland ever get the volunteer level that Brooklyn has?

Will there be mistakes made by inexperienced members in the growing process that make the whole program a net negative?

All will be told in time I suppose.

is Cleveland as dense as NY to allow for such response times?

No but each of the 3 neighborhoods is relatively small and streets are basically empty so probably similar timing. Maybe a bit slower
