Essentially these cans enable robotic garbage pickup, so that you essentially need less personnel and can go faster.
True, that it would require less personnel, just 1 person driving the truck VS 1 driving, 1 throwing in the garbage. But faster? I'm not so sure... The garbage men in NYC, do it 123, and the garbage is in the truck... I've seen the robotic garbage trucks, it seems to take a lot more time maneuvering the arm at each house...

Although I am not sure how this might work in places like NYC where it's likely that there are a lot of parked cars blocking the curb.
It wouldn't.

Theory:
This grand idea was lobbied by a company who now sells the cans to the city... No one cares about the cleanliness of the city (for sure not Adams).
Even deeper, Adams receives commission.

It's not about robotic pickup, doubt the sanitation union would let that happen.
It's about the rats

Well, my mother has managed just fine mostly walking to wherever she needs to go for close to four decades.
I guess the modern take would be ubering.

This is the correct answer. People don’t live like that, those who did left Brooklyn already.

the biggest joke is that there will be two options-35gl and 45gl. That's about 2-3 kitchen garbage bags. If I lived in NYC with 2x/week pickup, we would need at least 6-8 of those cans on a normal week for my family of 8. Yomtov time would be way more.

I have a family of 8, but two of my kids are away in college most of the year. I totally get where you are coming from, especially around Y"T. Recycling bins are more than full.

Regular garbage is every other week, compost is weekly, and recycling switches every week.

When I visit YT is a huge problem but there is no other choice then to separate all scraps etc.

Every city has diff rules but I believe the large cities operate that way.

Garbage pickup may be the biggest pro of living in Beachwood, OH.

Seriously?

Yup.
And you need to sort the recycling into a bunch of different categories
and it's been that way for decades.
About 20 years ago, we went to Toronto for a chasuna, and stayed by a family friend who had 10+ kids.
They told us that the neighbors on their entire block know to call them if anyone has room left in their single permitted garbage bin...
We took all our rubbish with us back to the states  ;)

Putting politics aside, they have gotten used to it. For diapers you can request a special pickup. Erev Pesach is always a issue.
I always bring my extra plastic shopping bags as well.

You guys should ask move to LA. Unlimited trash cans with weekly pickup. And different sizes available, all work with the robot truck! Black they charge after the first, green and blue unlimited free.
Also we have waymo driverless cars, no more chatty Uber drivers with bad music!

5towns also has it pretty good. Pickup is every other day (so one week is 2x and the next week is 3x), recycling is optional, and bulk pick up is whenever you call. They also go to my side/backyard to get the garbage cans and put them back there afterward.
