It has 99% of the benefits of LA (and it's technically in LA city).  It's just farther north and doesn't have as good weather.
99%? The weather is not as nice. What benefits does it have?

I don't know the last time you were in the valley, but they defiantly have more restaurants than most Jewish communities in America.

No restaurants.
That's obviously false.

The people who like in LA.  It's not a cheap place to live.  You need to be making $100k+ rather quickly if you plan to raise a family here.  Those making $150k with a couple of kids are middle class.

I'd hope that this is after taxes and health ins. b/c $100k minus taxes, health ins, tuition for "a couple of kids" and rent/mortgage will pretty much leave a family w/o $ for food/utilities/Pesach/cars/an $8k Bris/a $30k Bar Mitzva/?Wedding/other semi-important necessities.

Of course they are.
Living in LA is the high life.  It's like flying First, who could go back to coach?
And yet...you have to pay for flying first and in the game of life you can't always use miles.
And it's not $$$$ it's also spirituality.
On that topic it was after I dated 2 LA girls that I told my parents I had no interest in dating another.
They had zero interest in living anywhere else, even if a job would necessitate a move elsewhere.

I'm sure there are many exceptions, but I can see why it would be very hard for a LA girl to move elsewhere.

and Irene.
Irene? what's that? :)

I'm not saying NY never got hit by a hurricane, but you can't put it in the same discussion as FL.

Midwesterners are happy visiting LA, happy in Miami, happy in Cleveland, happy in Minnesota. Basically we can be happy anywhere...

Another reason I'm happy to have grown up here. All I can say is Thank G-d.

(Though.. I wouldn't too happy living in NY. But that's just me. Most of my Midwesterner friends would love it.  )

+1

It's even harder when 2 LA people get married.  Their chances of leaving are almost nil.  That's why I'm so happy I spent my teenage years in Milwaukee: I have no problem living not in LA.

How can you put NY and FL together when it comes to hurricanes???

Well, if you're a what have you done for me lately type - NY has had multiple hurricanes and the Oct snow of beginning of last winter which was brutal as well.

I didn't include earthquakes for the same reason hurricanes are not included in NY/FL and blizzards/tornadoes are not included in the midwest: natural disasters don't count.  If anything, damaging earthquakes are a lot less frequent than other damaging natural disasters.
I hear ya though I do think earthquakes are a con in CA as Hurricanes ought to be in FL.
Blizzards are included in CLE=hard winters.  Though I've never heard of a blizzard demolishing a home and we don't get tornadoes in these parts.
