"Property taxes in Florida are some of the highest in the country"
How much are they for an average home?
According to this calculator, taxes on a $250,000 home would be 4,811 or 1.925%

There are other places besides FL and NY...
NY has brutal summers and winters.  There are plenty of places that are very pleasant for half of the year.

We were in MIA in late September and it was still miserable. My wife, who is half my size, didn't want to be outdoors at all due to the oppressive heat and humidity.  So I don't think it's possible that 8 months are all that great...
Definitely not eight months.  Succos in BR I'm told is brutal.  Probably closer to six
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

You can make a nice mini-trip out of it.  Find a nice cruise to check out the islands, really cool places to see.

Assuming we crash your party for shabbas, how many days would you recommend?

So, NY is brutal in both seasons, MIA is brutal in summer, CLE is brutal in winter...

MIA has low taxes, NJ has high taxes, and CLE is somewhere in the middle?

NYC has great access to international flights, MIA less so, and CLE even less than that.

Can we create a top 5 list or something? I need to start thinking about this stuff. I refuse to pay $1MM+ for a nice house.
Sounds about right.  Though CLE has a great little UA hub, CAK has a nice FL/WN hub.
Beachwood, at 90% jewish, is the safest jewish community you'll find just about anywhere in the world.

And for half a mill you can have a killer house in Beachwood.  $250K buys a very nice one.
For $750K a freakin' mansion with elavator and more bedrooms and bathrooms than you can possibly know what to do with.

Sounds very reasonable, how can that be highest in the country??

We came down at the end of July and stayed at J and D's until our place was ready.
Lucky you...
Definitely not eight months.  Succos in BR I'm told is brutal.  Probably closer to six
Or maybe not...
According to this calculator, taxes on a $250,000 home would be 4,811 or 1.925%
Is the calculator accurate, besides for the home in the example being $225k and certain fees not included? Meaning are these real numbers that can be confirmed/ is avg price of house around $225k??
Sounds very reasonable, how can that be highest in the country??
Maybe it's the undisclosed fees...

June, July, and August are the worst, May and September are bad, and the rest of the year is gorgeous.
Sounds very reasonable, how can that be highest in the country??
I have no idea. Still in the renting stage.

Being 30 min away from FLL + PBI and 50 min from MIA isn't too bad either.

It's the Broward County official site...
The house in the example is $250,000. There is a $25,000 homestead exemption for all houses bringing the taxable value down to $225,000.

Great for AA/Avios, not great if you're a UA guy and like upgrades (which are easy as pie from CLE).

Friend just bought in Hollywood.  400k for something decent,  not huge,  not luxurious

In my Shtetl, if a house was worth $250k taxes would be around $8800, after exemptions and fees... Of course if your house is worth 2.5 times the avg house then at least you'd be living in something huge or luxurious...

Even better for FL/WN + Companion Pass. FL has 2-3 nonstop's a day from FLL to PHL and increasing service to EWR in October.

Wow, you really gotta move a few miles east...half that price and lower income tax to boot.

The kashya is stronger on the ppl moving to UH over Beachwood more than Cleve Heights, at least here the house prices are cheaper and therefore my personal taxes are in the low 4's/year while others luck out with their house evaluating at 80k so their taxes are closer to $3000... UH and Beachwood share shuls and stores and Beachwood has almost every advantage in the book...

It's hard to really compare prices as the houses are comparable. The average UH house is typically much smaller and older often with detached garages. Plus they're harder to sell.  And the newer houses there have humongous tax bills.
