Read what he wrote. He already got take-out and is now realizing from this thread that he wasn't charged tax. No need to thank Dan for that one, plenty of other opportunities on this site.

Midwood in Flatbush is by far one of the most convenient places for a frum Jewish family to live on earth. EVERYTHING is  within a few short blocks!

That's the wrong way to frame the problem. The issue is primarily barrier to entry (ie you have to have enough cash to buy the house, or at least for the down payment), not that you're spending a lot and getting a little. The money you spend on a house is the interest on your mortgage, real estate taxes, utilities, etc. When you buy a house, you exchange money for an asset/property, and you still have that asset/property later.

Location. Location. Location. This is the most basic thing so your buck bangs equally.

This is like complaining why its so expensive to live in LA. Yeah, it costs. Real estate is about location my friend.

If it is important for you to live in Flatbush or LA or the old city near the Kosel then the price makes sense. It seems
like so many people have a problem digesting this. OK so you live in Ohio or somewhere else in middle of no where, and your
like..yeah, my house sits on an acre of land and I paid the equivalent of the cost of a drive way in New York...that's great..we
hope you enjoy but people pay for location. Bottom line is that for a Jew you can not top what New York offers or what the old city
in Jerusalem offers or LA for what it offers..so you pay for it. You cant argue bang for buck in real estate.

You're right. It is just impossible to top the dearth of parking, noise, crime, expense, hustle, and bustle that NYC offers.
It's mamosh mesiras nefash to live in Ohio.

Maybe that will stop all of you NY'ers from moving in and driving our real estate prices higher.

No one disagrees that NY has cons. But there are pros too. You can't argue with the numbers..it's the winner when it
comes to Jewish population. And for every guy there that wishes he could move, there are a bunch of others who are happy where
they are. The job market is better than many other places. You have family, a choice of communities, shuls, schools, eateries...
like no where else, so, yeah there are a whole slew of drawbacks, but plenty of people are happy all the same.

Another point is that a lot has to do with mind set. You can be happy almost anywhere if you want to be. I actually do NOT live in NY I am just trying to be honest about things. I do like oot better, but I wont disregard whats good about the big apple.

I tried to convince DW to  look outside the tri-state box. Schools are important, food is important, but I think family was the kicker. Even a 2-hour flight is far when you're talking about a family.

Listen, if the NY'ers would stop pretending it's the only sensible place to live, and the OOT'ers would stop trying to convince the NY'ers that they're really all miserable and OOT is the only way to go, this thread would be a lot more readable and helpful.

I definitely don't think NY'ers are miserable.
I think the ones that say that you need to have 500 schools and 500 shuls to choose from in order to live as a frum jew ought to get out more.

it's not a question of need, it's a question of want. I'm an OOT who's been living in bklyn for the past 5 years, and as much as I dislike all the con's, I definitely appreciate all the pro's ( minyanim within a block every 15 min, a choice of boys and girls schools within a 5 min. walk a grocery around the corner and several supermarkets and hardware stores within a 5 min walk. ) . Its hard to argue that any OOT community can provide all that on the other hand I still feel my quality of life is more important and would like to move back out.
