On the plus side, better than being stuck in NYC.

Maybe if these officials weren't standing at pressers every five minutes they'd actually do their job.

Nothing available until Thursday, and even that was only because I had a backup. Otherwise it would nothing until next Tuesday.

4 longhaul irr-ops in a row now dating back to last March. Maybe Gd is trying to tell me something?
Weren't they all through NYC?

I'm sorry, but this snow situation in NYC is just ridiculous.

Streets not plowed 2 days later?

Majority of flights still being cancelled 2 days later? This makes my 4th longhaul in a row to have irr-ops :P

CLE might get a lot of snow (normally at least, this year we've yet to get hit) but at least when it comes things get taken care of and life isn't interrupted.
Streets, sidewalks, and driveways all get plowed by others. Cars are parked in these crazy things called attached garages. And our airport doesn't shut down.

If only you could actually see what the streets in queens and brooklyn STILL look like today. I think I'm packing out of here soon for a VERY extended vacation

Untrue. Most have been plowed twice by early afternoon today.

When was the last time CLE had a blizzard with 30 inches of snow? I've yet to find a single one in the history. Enlighten me. Maybe I'm wrong.

Is that supposed to be something good or bad about CLE/NYC?

He's responding to Dan's assertion that it's ridiculous that in NYC delays are extending until Tuesday.

It's a well-made point. Not very often NYC gets slammed with 30 inches (JFK). In fact, it's record breaking.

I was gonna post this exact point earlier. Largest single day in CLE since 1950 (when the records start) was 13.6 inches. It snows much more in CLE (#3 in average snowfall per year for 'large cities') than in NYC, but apparently it's steady enough that they can handle it well.

Moreover, when's the latest time CLE was forecast to have <12 inches of snow a day before they received 30?

I wouldn't mind if my flight back from FLL gets cancelled :)

CLE is not in the snowbelt.

Beachwood is in it, though Chardon is the heart of it.

So answer the question:
Moreover, when's the latest time [Edit] Beachwood was forecast to have <12 inches of snow a day before they received 30?

Lake effect snow is almost never forecasted, most of our snow comes as a surprise, at least until Lake Erie freezes over. Some years we get almost no snow, other years we've had 4+ foot snowfalls.
But the streets get plowed every 10 minutes and the driveways and sidewalks get plowed multiple times, and life goes on. Really doesn't change the math much, especially for those that live and work in Beachwood.

It does help that there's no street parking at night (or during snowstorms) as far as cleanup goes though. But that's a benefit of driveways and garages.

Says here that the record single day snowfall in Beachwood was 17.4 inches (in 1916):

There's no measuring station in Beachwood that I know of, so I don't know where those numbers come from.
I know in November of 96 we had a snowstorm that dropped 4-6 feet of snow from start to finish in the snowbelt, while outside of the snowbelt they got just a trace of snow.

+1

And two feet many times...honestly two feet in beachwood isn't scary. They really do a good job of clearing. On main roads they even have 3 trucks in a row drive by together to clear the whole road in one direction at once. Obviously NY is too big to take care of it the same way.
