Who is paying for what- the brochures? The community paid for them.
Yes, currently all the families living here are affiliated on some level with Chofetz Chaim, but it by no means is a "chofetz chaim" community.

I guess I was just surprised that it would be cost effective to do so with so few families - but then again, how much could it cost already to print a few brochures and distribute them.

It sounded like they bring in bochurim for shabbos minyanim. Are there at least 10 families yet? If not, what do you do for minyan during the week?

It's way more cost effective than an ad in the newspapers. We were blessed to be featured in the AMI magazine and had all the copy, it was just the expense of printing and distribution.
For weekday minyanim we are not too far from West Hempstead, the young israel there has a decent selection of minyanim.

If you have a digital version, maybe post it here.

Also, what about a mikvah? Doesn't seem like anything is walkable for shabbos. Eruv? Obviously these are likely the type of things that take a little more growth to address, but I'm sure they matter to some right now.

Correct, the closest Mikvah is either in Merrick by the Chabad or West Hempstead not really walking distance.
We have an Eruv that encompasses almost all of East meadow, which is under rabbi Kresch's haskama. An eruv was our first priority.

Wow. Eruv first priority, before mikvah?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

How about Linden? Think there is a growing, young Modox community there. Near Elizabeth, so all amenities from there. Don't know if they have large homes, though. Mostly small homes, around $200k, though, with the crazy NJ property taxes.
Linden leans very far away from yeshivish
A large chassidim community is moving in from BP.
To Linden? When did that start happening? I find it hard to believe.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Yes, it's a lot simpler to build an eruv than a mikvah, in terms of both costs and logistics.
Also, an eruv impacts more people on a more frequent basis than a shabbos Mikvah.
I think many more people would be hesitant to move to a community with no eruv than one without a shabbos mikvah.

Yeah,it's a recent thing that an eiruv became an absolute necessity. I don't understand why though... Especially if ppl have backyards etc

Excuse my ignorance (I'm originally from England), but what is "Chofetz Chaim"? A kehilla? Yeshiva? Is it affiliated with Rabbi Zaks in Monsey?

Chofetz chaim is both a sefer, and a person. The person wrote the sefer.  He lived in Radin, and had a yeshiva, and wrote the sefer. He is Rabbi Zaks' grandfather or greatgrandfather or something.  Why is Rabbi Zaks' name not Kagan? I dunno, why is your name not Avinu if you're descended from avraham.

There's also some orgs that incorporate his name. Like the chofetz chaim heritage foundation, as if the chofetz chaim's heritage is  everyone watching a movie on tisha b'av afternoon, with a frum version and a frei version.

Obviously, the chofetz chaim's real heritage is the yeshiva named after him, that was opened by his nephew, whose name is also not Kagan (I ASK YOU AGAIN, IS YOUR NAME AVINU? NO? SO I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT).

We're talking Chofetz Chaim here. If it's a kasha, you can spend the whole zman on it. ;)

LOL.

I meant to ask what the "Chofetz Chaim" mentioned in the post by @Sport referred to. How are families "affiliated on some level with Chofetz Chaim"?
