The numbers for your area say different. Actually by the numbers where I live is safer. My guess is you are talking about a small concentrated area?
Like I said the vast majority of the crime numbers is from the malls. So unless you live in the mall take 90% of that crime away.

i would just say that although this type of community setup with one top person etc is limiting in a way, it helps create achdus, and helps to create a structured environment. which can help as well. If you have an issue in CH with tuition, the rabbi tells you to go ask the school, the school says go to the board the board says go to... etc. Here you go to one place and get it worked out.

Here (PIT) you go to one place and get told to jump in a lake... and that's final

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that your relatives live in the old neighborhood of Cleveland Heights?
Because I can walk for many blocks in any direction from my house and it's 100% safe.

Correct. But the neighborhoods are pretty close, aren't they?

3 Miles apart. That's a bit more than a few blocks.

No.  One is dying while the other is thriving.  You wouldn't mistake one for the other.

Can't FTFY for lack of the correct word, but I was in a community that was dying and it doesn't feel the same here.

I think I see multiple reasons why by now, but I always thought it to be funny that in Bklyn, Monsey, Lakewood etc. 2 ppl can live 5 miles away and they both live in Monsey, but in even CH to UH which could be 2.5 miles apart "We don't mistake one for another." (sharing schools and costco's too)

Should this be in the Cleveland thread and not here?

That's because CH is dying a very slow death, as it has been for 30 years now.  But it's definitely in a death-cycle no less, it's just nuanced and slow.  In 30 years from now there won't be any frum jews in CH.  You can take that to the bank.

The same thing happened in old jewish neighborhoods like Kinsman, E. Cleveland, and Lee rd.  History repeats itself.
But it's not a bad thing.  I prefer living in a newer neighborhood than PIT's stagnant Sq. Hill community.

In 30 years my house will be 90...
In 30 years I'll need super google to remember that you posted it and see if I can take to the bank or not...
Is that 30 coordinated with the coming Millikin lease?

Instead of dying I'll go for hanging in there...

I understood his "here" to mean the location under discussion, not that he's there at the moment.

100% agreed. The neighborhood got much smaller over the past few years and no one young is moving in...

Sorry was just using similar wording to what you used originally. I am in MTL currently, although I have spent many years in PIT (not as a parent however). I heard from ppl (n>1) that they do have discounts for ppl that cannot afford it but they most certainly don't "work with you", they determine what the discount is and that's final.

Although I've posted earlier in the Best Places to live(Lubavitch) thread, I'll reorganize my thoughts for this thread.

North Miami Beach.

Pros:
  • No state income tax. Sales tax isn't collected when items ships from a different state(NY, for example, charges irrespective of item origin).
  • Gas is cheaper
  • Kosher food and restaurants are abundant
  • Optimal weather in November-April
  • Driving is very simple with straight, wide roads with NO potholes
  • NMB is quieter than most major communities
  • Housing is very affordable. A 4/3 goes for 150-225k. Rent for 4/3 is approx. 1800k monthly
  • The Kehilla is very vibrant with 8 shuls and diverse as well, with Chabad, Litvish, MO, Sephardish, Chassidish(Satmar Rebbe(R' Zalman) vacationed in a house across the street from me!)
  • Lubavitch Educational Center, Chofetz Chaim and Bais Yaakov are excellent Chinuch options.

Cons:

  • May-October is a bit hot and humid
  • kosher food is cheaper in NY
  • Snowman building isn't really an option
  • New Yorkers will harbor bitter envy towards you during Winter

PM me for more details.

Yeah, and NYC is a bit crowded and noisy. :)

Sounds great besides the humidity!

How is the Chabad school situation and how are kids that come out of it?
