Lol! I remember reading a story last year about a guy who bought a house in detroit for a penny!

Sounds about right.

Here's my problem, whenever I hear "housing is really cheap" to me that translates into "no one wants to live here"
It's true but the people who do live there love it!

+1 Most people I speak to there do like it. Every city has its pros and cons. And it has all the smaller city Midwest benefits.

I'll probably go there for a shabbos to check it out. My free ride in NY is Almost over and I hate the idea of rent.

Are you kidding me?

Depends if you want to have to walk around with a bodyguard or shomrim at night...

If you want yeshivish there's always Cleveland Heights or Wickliffe which is a fraction of Beachwood prices.
And if you want safe but cheaper than Beachwood there's University Heights as well.
The irony here is that nobody outside of OH or MI would call Beachwood expensive :D

Its not that bad in oak park I live in oak park and when I'm convincing someone not to move here I wouldn't bring up safety because its not like Detroit there is no action here

That isn't true.  While you may not feel unsafe while walking down the street there are plenty of stories that go on in the city.  It isn't the safest place.
But no ones walking around in fear.

I've been to Oak Park.
You walk a block or 2 the wrong way and it can get pretty scary.  Doesn't exist in Beachwood.

And from what I've heard women get escorted on friday nights, etc.  Is that not true?

So in new york terms, oak park is considered extremely safe, right?

By the lubvitch community(9 mile) its not so good only I mile frm detroit by the other community's its not bad

A year ago a few black kids punched a kid on shabbos day so the community got federation to pay for security for fri night and shabbos day. I don't think they have this by the lubvitch area

Like I said, you can't compare Beachwood safety to Oak Park.  I've never heard of any incidents here...people walk around day and night without fear and leave their doors open and cars running...

Plus Beachwood is a nice melting pot with a shul for you regardless if you're MO, chassidish, yeshivish, lubavitch, sefardish, etc, etc.

So far you've admitted the lubavitch area is not good and the yeshivish area hires security to keep people safe.
It may not be dangerous but that hardly sounds ideal to me.
