I think rots5 has exempt status.

i am from monsey (does that count from ny?) well, i have to agree with dov bear. what happens is, (i will talk for myself) i love the way i grew up, i love the way i turned out and i loved everything about my childhood. so in turn it would make sense for me to say 'monsey is the greatest,' but i wont. i understand that everyone is diff and that everyone has diff views on what they want in life and what they see fit to raise a family and so on. so will i say monsey is the greatest...no. i happen to think monsey is great...for me! :) and dont get me wrong, there are plenty of chisronos about living in ny! someone who says NY is the best is just a very shallow person, but so is the person who says ny is the worst place ever! be real, its ok to!
Monsey is not NYC.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

Im sorry. I wish i can type on a computer correctly. I start typing quick but i forget to go back and re correct my writings. I have completely changed my writing style after a few complaints. Even when on my computer i try, but when i write a lot its hard to go back and correct myself. I will fed work on it more.

Its funny how the one or two times i don't write correctly i am not mentch. :P

Monsey is not NYC.
as i started off, if monsey counts. Though can it count towards something that my father is..... :D

Most NY'ers hate NY because of expensive rent and housing and no grass, other than that we're pretty much ok with it. We don't think its the greatest but its pretty good at the end of the day.

...someone who says NY is the best is just a very shallow person, but so is the person who says ny is the worst place ever! be real, its ok to!

I think it's worth pointing out that the same is true for someone who says that about any other community. While I understand that much of it has been more in response to the 'other side' of the discussion, it still sounds a little childish, regardless of which side of the argument it's coming from. We can get input from people living in various communities without anyone  mentioning a word about a place other than where they live. I'm not saying explicit comparison wouldn't be helpful, but it has brought more distraction to this thread than useful discussion

I'm in a similar boat to you rots, grew up in the metro area (oustide of NYC - though now I live inside it) and I've always been happy with it, especially as I'm going through the process of really putting down roots. But I totally understand that there are legitimate reasons that people also hate it, and lots of things about certain OOT communities that people just love. If you like where you live, you're already ahead of most people. Just sit back and enjoy it without worrying about what other people think of it, and whose is the best.

Sky, i must agree with you. It def goes both ways. But the only reason why i am able to come to this realization is two fold, one - bec i did seed for a few summers in Phoenix. It def opened my eyes to an OOT community and how there run. Two - i married someone from westchester. As in town or ny you wanna call it, its still considered in the jewish velt OOT. I do see it how Shlomo Zalman is so shallow bec he prob never got out. He grew up in a box called Flatbush and never realized theres life out of it.

Though i must say, at mid 20's at the moment most of my friends who did grow up in Flatbush and the such have no interest in returning there to start families. That says a lot about the situation there.

At any rate, to clarify a few things.

-I don't care if people drive fancy cars.  If you can afford it then good on you!  But I don't want to hear from people with a fancy car about how they're broke but they feel like they need to keep up with the Schwartzes or whatever other reason they would rather drive a fancy car rather than pay full tuition or save for a down payment on owing a house.

+1
Unreal! I'm just dealing with a tenant that drives a fancy car and does a lot of (so called) chesed and very eidel (what ever that means) but rent he ain't paying for the past 6 months and when i confronted him (after he ignored me deliberately) he comes up with that stinky disgusting NYC attitude that i have b"h never encountered before.
(I'm sorry for the rant) just trying to point out that although i live in nyc i don't think that the pro's of living here is any of the arguments he put forward.

Did anyone write the pros and cons of any city in CT? I moved from Brooklyn to CT 2 months ago, and I'm very happy here. If anyone is interested I can share some pros and cons.

How much is affordable?

The humidity is really what scares me off of Florida.

Well there is a meshuganer there now, what do you expect. j/k.

I think every city has scandals. Just big cities like NY, LA, Miami are more in everyone's business so more people find out.
