Last I checked this thread was about how good a fit a state is for its residents and not how good a state is in general...
The point being that the people who would enjoy living in Alaska are a very small minority of the overall population. Hence it's silly to say to your average Joe, people who live in Alaska love it, you should move there too.

Home size and land size in Atlanta and Tampa will probably be smaller than home size and land size in Cleveland and Cinncinatti at those rates.

You'd be hard pressed to find a home for 1/2 a million in the frum neighborhoods of LA!

Not in Pico or LA Brea you won't. Maybe in Calabasas or Agura...

Hmm... A quick zillow search shows prices more along the lines of 600-900,000... but I guess it's possible.
Then again, who wants to live in Calabasas or Agoura  :P

San Francisco $679,800 $137,100

So CLE is cheapest and PIT is second cheapest, huh? Pretty cool.

I'd just like to add that those are median prices per city. The actual discrepancy can be a lot more. As people are noting, a median house price in LA may be HALF of what it costs in a frum neighborhood in LA.

In other words, the difference between Pittsburgh where I live and New York is not just $120,000 and $388,900 which is $268,000. No, the real difference is when you look IN each city what it really costs to be in the frum neighborhood. I can get a 4 br in Squirrel Hill for $280,000. In Crown Heights, I would have to spend 700-800k just for a house that needs to be gutted.

But of course, all you NYers will complain on this thread but ultimately only 1 out of 1,000 of you will ever be able to tear yourself away from NY. And even if you do, it will only be to move to South Florida with all the other NYers.

True. A 60K salary spread is really 120K when you figure that houses in frum areas carry a 100% premium over median.
180K spread for a 200% premium.

Home prices are more of a barrier to entry than an actual cost of living. If you have $500k and buy a $500k house, your net worth is the same as if you had $500k and bought a $100k house (transaction costs notwithstanding). More relevant for comparison to salary would be things like taxes, total interest saved over the mortgage term, and other non-housing related costs of living.

Except that people in LA can't afford housing and spent their lives renting.

Even if it's a hot summer...

A four+ bedroom house with a pool for 150K AND no state income tax AND a decent size Jewish community that is growing every year.

Tough to beat.

Do they have non-gender mixed schools?

Who cares?
Better in FL or OH, the states that decide who will be president every 4 years.

Interested in an answer to that as well, for both Houston and Dallas.

I believe Yavneh (in Dallas) and Beren (in Houston) are both co-ed.

Not sure about the rest.
