Chabad school in Houston is coed thru 4th grade. Competition for homes is fierce. Super low inventory. For a 4 bedroom expect to pay around 200k to 225k.

Ha. Even that is paltry by comparison to NYC/NJ.

Unless you live there, i believe you are wrong. I have seen a few houses there for 150k (this was a year ago)

for more info: http://www.relocatehouston.org/

They have a frum school in Houston that is mixed till 4th and then separate (not chabad). Chabad also has a school. I have been to both.

Even if it's a hot summer...

A four+ bedroom house with a pool for 150K AND no state income tax AND a decent size Jewish community that is growing every year.

Tough to beat.

Yup! The cost of living there is really low.

Unreal.

Quote
Are there apartments or  homes for rent?

Yes, there are a number of 1-2 bedroom apartments and 3 bedroom 'patio' homes for rent within the eruv. A patio home is a smaller, starter home that does not have a full size yard. 1-2 bedroom apartments range betwee $500-$800 a month and 3 bedroom patio homes start at around $1300/month. The apartments average between 700 - 1000 square feet, and the 3 bedroom patio homes range from 1800-2400 square feet.

AND:

Dont forget Houston was rated the top place in America for jobs....

I was in downtown Houston. They have massive firms in building as big as NYC. Just no traffic or smell.  :o

Texas jobs that are available are not really Jewish jobs per se, there are tons of jobs if you are up to drilling wells, operating heavy equipment or driving rigs. For the rest of us there is churning credit cards

The school is very good--I have two kids there and a third going into preschool next year.
http://www.tetx.org/

They are in the middle of construction on a 4 mil building seconds away from the main young frum community.
Should be ready by september.
School is mixed until 4th grade now, but as the classes grow and need to be split they will be splitting the grades by gender from the beginning.

Great place to live IMHO

What about for ashkenazim?
Its a regular out of town day school.
When they wanted to start it they needed an "excuse" to break from the status quo of having one mixed school following a more modern hashkafa, so they called it a sephardic school.
It is regular torah umesorah day school.
