american express blue
« on: May 05, 2010, 08:36:07 PM »
My freind has an amex blue card with a few hundred thousand points. He would like to transfer them out to ff miles. I was told if he opens a new amex and than combines the two he would be able to transfer the points out. Does anyone know which amex would be the best to get this done and if this works. THANK YOU

I highly doubt that he'll be able to transfer AMEX Blue points to miles, no matter what card he has.

amex blue gets you membership reward points
with just the blue it can be transfered 2MR -> 1 airline mile
If you get a gold (or platinum) card all your MR points get upgraded to the 1=1 transfer rate.

You can sign up for the AMEX Premier to get membership rewards access.
It's offering 15K points, but until now everyone has gotten 30K points from the 15K offer, so that may still be going on.

are you saying that once you make a new card with MR you can transfer Blue points over to it and then get full 1:1 value for them to airlines?

that's good to know, i was about to try and switch my blue to something better being that i'm about to do some serious spending, but now there is no rush.

do i actually have to switch the points over when i make a new card? or can i leave them in the Blue and let both accounts co-exist?

I would imagine the accounts will combine automatically.

Reviving an old thread:

Anyone know if you can convert an Amex Blue into another card that transfers to miles? AFAIK it is a credit card, not a charge card.

The cardholder has like ~170k points in the account, but doesn't want to have their credit pulled at this time, so they're only looking for a conversion, not a new app.

What about for an Optima card? (different cardholder, similar situation)

the only other MR credit card seems to be http://www304.americanexpress.com/getthecard/learn-about/Mercedes-Benz-Credit-Card/25330
not sure if it's MR (allows transfers) or MR Express (does not)
same question with http://www262.americanexpress.com/business-credit-cards/business-card-details/business-membership-rewards-card/29790#rewards for the biz cards

MB says it allows transfers to airline and hotel programs, so now we need to see if Blue will convert to that.

also notice the annual fee on the MB card
(perhaps convert, transfer miles, convert back, fee refunded)
