May not be able to go to Israel... Travel Insurance??
« on: November 06, 2012, 02:04:38 PM »
We're traveling to Israel November 21 and have an appointment with the NY Passport Agency on Tuesday, Nov 13th to get expedited passports for me, my husband and my baby.  We also had to order a birth certificate for my husband, and did so the weekend before the storm and figured we'd have it the next week (a few days before the appointment).

NY Passport Agency may not be open by then and I'm also not sure if the birth certificate for my husband will get here in time.

Is there any travel insurance that would cover our cancellations for this type of reason? If there would have been no hurricane - we would be fine.

Any advice/tips?

Thanks!

I doubt you'll find someone to cover you after the fact

Usually such insurance needs to be booked 24 hours after the purchase date of the tickets

Did you try calling the airline and "blaming" it on Sandy?

I'll definitely try that if I have to. It's ElAl though and I don't know if they'd be so nice about it.  Especially since I have the 'special deal' tickets.  :-\

Try the passport office in Stamford, CT. They usually have appts.

True...  CC company said I'd have to file with Chubb, but she basically said it's not officially covered in the terms, so... that is most likely a dead end. I guess I'll see what happens and call ElAl if need be and pray they'll cancel the tickets.

Does anyone know if they're still making changes to the tickets?

What took you three months to realize you needed passports?

Try the passport office in Stamford, CT. They usually have appts.

They're not taking any new appointments or walk-ins right now. (I'm assuming they're getting all the traffic from other places.

Next closest agencies are Philadelphia and Boston.
