Cordless phone- water damage

My cordless phone fell into a bowl of water, the phone still turns on but the buttons or sound is not working. Any ideas/hope?

+1 [usually you should do that right-away]
don't forget to remove batt+cover
leave for a day or so
report back.

Why remove battery? (Cover I understand)
the very first thing you do when electronics drink water, is to remove the battery so to stop any electric connection in the device.
the main thing that kills the device is thats its working while water is in the system
