How old was the phone?
Was it the first phone on the account or an upgrade?

Cellular data often sucks when you aren't stationary, especially if you're moving at high speeds.

That's true. But it was in a very random spot, so maybe their just testing it out

Speedtest tells me that the network in my area is Ehrpd (upgraded evdoA) Does that mean that LTE is on the way?

Yea, I when I had the sprint mifi and was trying to use it on the I95 it got worse and worse the faster we went. However a few months ago I switched to the sprint trifi and that actually worked at high speeds on the I70 all across the US.
