That is the question: does the airline mean they will allow you to switch to another flight "on the same day", or "within 24 hours (of the original flight)"? The agent said it was same day; thus 6 AM the next morning is a different day. Cbs showed her that the rule is 24 hours.

I have an award biz ticket for UA Jan 28 10:50pm ewr-tlv, I would like to change it to the earlier same day 3:50 pm flight but theres no availability.
Can I go on standby on the flight and if nothing opens up I stay with my seat on the next one?
Is there any fee associated with it?

As of right now looks like there is plenty of availability for the earlier flight.

I have the exact same problem (not Bz) on Feb 12. I purchased 2 tix for the 10:50 and want to go on the 3:50 and they want $800 in change fees??? Can anything be done even the same day, other then sitting in the airport all day hoping they will let me fly standby??

Should I check availability first? How many seats do you think they should have available so that It’s worth risking going to the airport earlier to try to catch the standby? (Don’t want to sit with wife in airport for an extra 7 hours for no reason)

So im now waitlisted on the earlier flight, I see that there are still 12 empty seats on buisness on that flight.
If I go to the airport and try to get onto that flight, will they let me get on even if there are no available award seats?
What should I tell them?

They gave me a confirmed economy seat and stand by on bz, by the gate they upgraded me to bz no charges at all, even though they had no availability on class I.
