It don't mean Verizon can not do the same thing , can be the have plains to do it 1 day & ask $100000000.00 for it, but now Google is coming in & hopefully the will start expending to new cities & states , wait & see how things will got shape of better

Speak to a shul there. If you rent a place don't forget you may responsible for any damage that occurs, and a vacant property might attract vandalism

Yes right, but keep in mind Google is not investing so much for 1 city, this is going to expend in year or 2 from now

To put it very simply, if fios goes through a regular sized pipe, GF goes through a pipe the size of Texas (or Kansas in this case)

this seems like a bit of a kludge. Why not just get a hosted server with a nice fat pipe in a datacenter?

i have heard good things about rackspace. BTW, one of the big advantages of being in the datacenter is that the number of hops to destination, latency, etc., is much lower...speed is not everything!

You can ask any hosting provider for a looking-glass and a traceroute to see exactly what the routes are...

I try to apply here http://www.homesforhackers.com/ for such a service but I today I got back the following email:

I saw on your H4H application that you want to put a computer or server in the house. I've already had several people ask me to do something similar, and unless it's specifically going to be used by folks in the house, it's a violation of Google Fiber's terms of service and I can't do it.

You should check out their 10k. Their margins are doing just fine and any complaint you read about in the media is a PR war to reduce phone subsidies.

Even though Israel is a small country and hard to compare to the US, look how much the price dropped when the big 3 got competition. You had average bills dropping 75% and now suddently orange and cellcom say that they can still be profitable with 100 shekel monthly bills. Look at france where less then 30 euro gets you everything unlimited and international calling to 40 countries free. American telecom companies are as profitable as they have ever been
