What does the US get out of this?
US has a mass interest of this. In today's days, US pretty much majorly lost their power they used to have over the world:
- Europe has today their own power, in form of the EU, and they make pretty much their own decisions, although on a similar path than the US, but still they have no obligation to the US's interests.
- Arab countries have long been against US interest, and as much the US will help them, they'll still kick US in the face (see: Libya, Pakistan etc...).
- Russia and China have proven to the world that they are doing whatever they want need, support whoever they want, and will anything against US's interest.
The only place US can still prove their leadership in the world is in the Israeli / Palestinian conflict, since Israel always felt for some reason extremely tied to the US, and extremely pressured from every work a US president will say.
