also got this offer
so is there a 1099 problem?
and why on the citi aa cc miles there is not a 1099 problem/

AFAIK because AA miles for a CC are only given if you spent some amount on the card, and are thus considered a rebate off the purchase, which isn't taxable. That's why you won't be taxed even with a 100K AA offer.

Used to be 2.5cpp, 6cpp is insane :(

If it Citi is paying <2cpp, how could they claim a tax basis of 6cpp?
i was exaggeration... sorry u took it literal

So this offer you receive only after spending $750 for the citigold checking. Maybe that's why there is no 1099?

Do they send a 1099INT  or a 1099MICS?
Airlines sending me "We're in this together" emails.

Bruh, where were you when my suitcase weighed it 51.50 pounds?

Anyone know how much they value miles at? I'm thinking of going for the 15k option :)

Looks like I discussed this extensively there, and yet I am still wary it's 6cpm like reported elsewhere...

I guess I will bite the 15k with my report frozen, we'll see if it flies...

Looks like it's working. Can I fund with a Chase CC without getting charged a cash-advance fee? If not, can I avoid a CA fee using any CC (from another issuer)?

A few posts up the guy who said 6 admitted he was exaggerating, so I'm pretty sure it's 2.5

linky?

Here's the linky from the Promo email I got, I don't think it's targeted and CMDJ seems to be the promo code.

https://online.citibank.com/US/JRSAO/ao_online/AOEntryPoint.do?Promo_ID=CMDJ&product_list=regular_checking&package=citibank_account&direct=true&resetApp=true

There's also a 5k option for a basic account and a 30k option (+$625 1099) for a CitiGold account.

Does the once-a-year-bonus go by when the account was opened or by when the bonus posts?

ETA: I guess the 1099 would go by when the bonus posts regardless...

What about if you transfer the TYP to someone else? (they are transferable, right?)

Correct me if I'm wrong. 30k @2.5cpp = $750. Taxed @ 15% (12k-47k income) =$112.5 you owe the IRS. 30k real value is 1.4 cpp = $420 - $112.5 = $307.50 profit.

Some people have higher tax brackets, there's also state (and possibly City tax) and it raises your AGI (I think)

Isn't it also unearned income, which can potentially push you out of the earned income credit (if you get more than 3k or so total)?

I just happened to be on the thank you points website earlier today, there are two type of thank you points, taxable and nontaxable, the taxable ones cant be transferred.

You may transfer some or all of your available qualifying ThankYou Points as a gift to another ThankYou Member by using the Transfer Points feature of ThankYou Rewards, provided the Points to be transferred are not due to expire in less than 90 days. In order to transfer your points, you, as the transferor, must have first set up your ThankYou Member Account with a user name and password either through the ThankYou Service Center or thankyou.com.
ThankYou Points can be transferred only to another ThankYou Member Account.
Once you transfer Points to another ThankYou Member, the transferred Points will be deducted from your Points Balance and added to the recipient's Points Balance. Points will post to the recipient's account immediately after the transaction.
The recipient of transferred Points may not transfer the Points received to another ThankYou Member.
Taxable Points and Points made unavailable for redemption due to signs of fraud, abuse or suspicious activity in your ThankYou Member Account or due to your failure to make the required minimum payment due on your participating Citi credit card account by the payment due date are not eligible for transfer. Taxable Points are Points obtained through activity unrelated to purchases made with your Citibank Debit MasterCard or with your Citi credit card, as well as Points received for a Citibank checking relationship and bonus Points that may be awarded for opening new Sponsor accounts or for signing up for new Sponsor services.
Transferred Points received expire 90 days from the date they are received.
If an item redeemed with transferred Points is returned, the transferred Points used for the redemption will be returned to the ThankYou Member Account of the redeemer, but the Point expiration timeframe of the transferred Points will not re-set. For example, if transferred Points with 60 days left before they expire are redeemed and 30 days later the Points are returned to the ThankYou Member Account after the redeemed item has been returned, the transferred Points will expire 30 days after they are returned to the redeemer's ThankYou Member Account.
A submitted request to transfer Points may not be cancelled by the transferor or the transferee and transferred Points may not be returned to the transferor by the recipient.
You may transfer your available Points through thankyou.com or through the ThankYou Service Center (1-800-THANKYOU). When transferring Points, you must accept the applicable Terms & Conditions before completing the transaction.
