I would like to think you are right, but I think I saw somewhere that as long as its associated with a checking account it's considered interest income (hence 1099).

I applied for a checking account and I got denied!!!! I got a letter saying it was due to info from Experian.... no other info provided. I called up twice and the reps had no idea why it was declined and why Experian was involved as they are a credit reporting agency not check systems. Two questions guys. 1) Does a citibank checking account = hard pull ? 2) Has anyone else seen this (it also happened with a SS that I manage) ?

Why? I don't know   All I do know its YMMV with a hard pull with checking accounts.
