Disappearing volume thingy in taskbar window7

Anyone have a simple solution? The volume thing is "Unavailable" it seems to randomly come and go every couple of weeks. Iv tried the normal settings things..

Have you tried 'show icon and notifications' when you right-click on the taskbar and select icons and notifications?

Sure, I get this: "This notification is not currently active"
I also tried changing settings in control panel nothing doing

Check Device manager to make sure that the sound device is properly detected and no yellow exclamation point or driver not detected.
is the sound working btw?

sounds working fine, everything in device manager looks fine, I can even adjust the volume in device manager, it just wont go on the taskbar

 Strangely,  just tried to restart again, first it showed icon but had a X through it saying audio device not available (sound was working meanwhile). A minute later it just fixed itself and now its there again... who knows maybe something was updating something ... Thanks guys!

that was my next suggestion, sometimes it dissapears and then returns when you restart
