Looking for a good priced SLR any recommendations in the current market?

Canon refurbished store online has one at around $320 I believe.

You can get the T4i from B&H for $650 including the stock lens. Ship to NJ (or any state other then NY) to avoid tax.

personally i would stay far away from the t- series cameras, and if your willing spend that much get a nikon d90 (basically nikons best camera out on the market) i happen to have a d5200 which is amazing! there are canons also, try a d60 (i think thats the one - also amazing)

heres a recent pic i just took, no filters

In terms of quality vs. new  then no but keep in mind that the Canon warranty for refurbished cameras is only 90 days as opposed to one year for new products.
I would stay away from the T3. You are getting a much lower quality camera than the T3i, which is only $150 more and has the same sensor as the 7d and 60d. T3 is simply not comparable to the T3i.
Link to T3i refurbished. http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_10051_283207_-1
For a lens, don't stick with the kit lens. Sell it for whatever you can get for it on Ebay or CL and get the Tamron 17-50 2.8 http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-17-50mm-Aspherical-Digital-Cameras/dp/B000EXR0SI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363098976&sr=8-1&keywords=tamron+17-50
Sharp as a tack, 2.8 aperture throughout the focal range and a quality piece of glass.

The T4i is $650 with a lens, the D90 is $800 with no lens. I'm looking more for video then photo so I'll probably end up buying canon. I wish there was something affordable that took a compact flash card though, those micro SD cards get hot very quickly.

Do you have kids? Do they touch your electronics? If your kids are like mine, there is no way I would forgo a free 2 year warrenty (1 yr canon + 1 yr amex) to get a used camera that is not much cheaper! T3i refurb for $475 or T4i for $650 (+ get telephoto lens for $150 off and resell to bring price down to less than $100 more at the most). Seems like a no brainer to me, unless the extra $100 is such a big deal and your kids are angels!

Unless you will be shooting professional video, the kit lens will be fine. And FWIU, rots5 is talking about focus, not stabilization.
If you are shooting any kind of video with the exception of the T4i and a Canon STM lens, you will need to manually focus anytime the subject moves planes. Manual focus is a real tricky thing to learn, especially when using the kit lens and the screen in back of the camera. The kit lens has a very sensitive focus ring and goes OOF with the slightest twist on the focus ring. Also, the kit lens does not have Ultrasonic focus, which allows you to adjust the focus manually when the focus selector switch is set on Auto.
If you are planning on shooting anything but closeups in a small indoor space, or a wide angle view, the Canon 50mm lenses are a great choice.
The Canon 50mm 1.8 costs around $100, and has a aperture of 1.8 which will give you incredible low-light abilities as well a razor-thin depth of field which gives you that professional look/Bokeh. http://www.amazon.com/Canon-50mm-1-8-Camera-Lens/dp/B00007E7JU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1363099824&sr=1-1&keywords=canon+50mm
Step up to the 50mm 1.4 for Ultrasonic focus and a 1/3rd of a stop larger aperture.
IMO, get the 1.8. The quality will beat any zoom lens under $1000.

Get a class 6 or higher SD card for shooting video. If you are shooting full 1080p 30fps video, get a class 10.
CF cards are on their way out.

Amazon seems to be offering a free 16gb class 10 memory card and a free lens keeper with a new T4i as well http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Rebel-18-0-Digital-18-55mm/dp/B00894YWD0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1363099434&sr=8-2&keywords=canon+t4i

I would go with B&H for the service, especially if the prices are similar/identical. It's always good to be able to talk to a human being ftf if something goes wrong.

I like this for 1k it's impossible to get good sound out of a DSLR but this mic could be the solution.

IME, you get much better value by buying all of your components separately.
That Rode mic is a good one though and will give you great sound.

Well, you get less warranty time but I've personally bought refurbs from Canon many times with no problem.

How long ago? Had the rebel series by canon been an option?
